STRONG OPENER FOR KENNINGTON IN CASTROL EDGE DODGE

May 20, 2018. DJ Kennington and the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge team opened the 2018 NASCAR Pinty’s Series with a robust performance in race one in front of a huge crowd at the Castrol Victoria Day Speedfest at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP) in Bowmanville, Ontario with a fourth place finish.

Kennington debuted a stylish new look to his #17 Castrol Edge Dodge this weekend but persistent showers limited the team to only a handful of practice laps on Saturday and forced the cancellation of qualifying.  According to the rules Kennington would line up fourth for the main event Sunday afternoon.

Under perfect sunny conditions on Sunday Kennington settled into a comfortable pace in the early going of the 51-lap event but stayed in touch with the frontrunners.  “There’s a few guys that are really good road racers, they took off at a fast pace and I wanted to save something for the end of the race,” said Kennignton.

The #17 Castrol Edge Dodge team made it’s first pit stop for fuel in the early going and when a caution period slowed the pace Kennington once again came to pit lane for fresh tires.  Scheduled service completed for the day “The rest was up to me” said Kennington.

As the race moved into the second half Kennington continued to keep the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge up near the front to gain every position possible before the checkered flag flew.  A late race battle disrupted the front of the field and Kennington seized the moment to move up to fourth position on the final lap.

“We ran pretty strong, very consistent all day.  A great job by the team to get the car right with so little track time and make good pit stops.  We had a top five car and that’s where we finished.  I have to thank all the fans that came out on Sunday to make this Castrol Speedfest the biggest ever, it’s such a great event to kick off our season” said Kennington.

The #17 Castrol Edge Dodge team are back in action Saturday June 16that Jukasa Speedway near Hamilton, Ontario.  You can watch all the action from the season opening race on Sunday, May 27that 4:30PM on TSN.
