well its looks like the 3 race showdown didnt go to to wellthis year. I personally always enjoyed the show taht the alstar series brought to barrie speedway. its a shamethat top drivers as the tiermas, are sellin there cars this year, and kyle donaldson got of it. I hope to eihter see this series revive itself to how ti used to be, or cancel it, and another local track run tru latemodels at there track
-
The ALSTAR series just doesnt have the draw that it once did. For both fans and drivers, some of this goes back to the crate engine argument and that Joe wont allow crates in the ALSTAR series which stops alot of Kawartha, Delaware and Flamboro guys from running. So now with less drivers, I beleive the last season they toured that only had about 15-20 cars on average, and for what it cost to bring them the tracks werent making it back. So ALSTAR is pretty much dead and OSCAAR is gonna be the place to be in 07.
-
yah i agree with you there, oscarr i think will be the plac to race next year, gonna be a lot of good races witha lot of top rookies driven. i think you mie even see a championshup change for enxt year :D if they would allow more latemodel rule changes a good latemodel travelling series would be funn to wtach also

Is there some evidence supporting the idea that OSSCAR's on the rise, or is it just wishful thinking?
I'm not seeing it, but then I didn't see any OSSCAR shows this year.
Having said that, all the ALSTAR boys are more then welcome to come race on Friday nights with our (Delaware) boys. Always a good show when those guys make it down.
-
well tim watson is goin oscaar, rumors of dwayne baker, tom milligan was sayin he was goin oscaar, bourque, and there was someone else who i cant remember.
-
That's good .... OSCAAR needs all the cars they can get!
I remember the show at Sauble this summer had only 13 or 14 cars (although it was perhaps the series best race in years - 50 laps, no cautions - 4 cars battling for the lead, over in 18 minutes) and the only place they seem to be able to draw 24 cars is at Kawartha.

I hope you are right, but everyone thought that OSCAAR was going to be the place to be in 06 as well. I love OSCAAR and wish that the series would have consistant car counts because when it is good, there is nothing better. True there are 4-5 new faces for '07, but it seems that for every 4-5 new they add, there are the same amount that leave or run a limited schedule.
-
The ALSTAR website, under 2007 Schedule, says, "Coming to a track near you." Perhaps a sign of things to come? Lets hope so!

Well here's what I just read in my recent issue of inside track. apparently Joe is hoping to announce a new touring series schedule in early December. Now that its Dec.9/06 hopefully some good news comes to us Late Modle fans that the series is travelling again. And for you OSCAAR fans Derrick Tiemersma is heading your way.
-
The Alstar Series website shows that it was last updated on December 8 so I guess Joe is not yet ready to announce what will be happening with Alstar.
-
No ALSTAR series in 2007.
-
That's a shame here's the annoucment

Well, that opens a door for someone else to start a traveling LM series, possibly even the WWS....
-
Paul milligan was sayin he was goin oscaar,
Really ? Well somebody should tell his dad because when I went by the shop the other day his dad was in the middle of building two identical 105 inch LLMs . One for Paul and one for somebody else.
-
Joe has noone to blame but himself! yes the tracks gave him a hard time but if he was truly interested in resurging the series he would have talked to the track owners throughout the summer to see what happened . Instead of just sending out contracts again!
-
I guess Joe will have three long weekends to fill at Sauble this year, since he only has 2.5 classes normally.
-
Hey what happened to Steeback. When I went to the Sauble website its no longer called Steelback Sauble Speedway and I couldn't find any reference to Steelback.
-
Hmmm...APC 300 Weekend just got more interesting.
-
funny, Joe's press release states (to paraphrase) that the drivers in the series were not Saturday night racers and their sponsors were province wide in scope. If he looked closely, most of the sponsors were still local, not provincial, and many teams were homeless Saturday night racers (ex Sauble, ex Sunset, ex Peterboro, etc) who did not have the budget to be travelling for top heavy purses. After the travel novelty wore off and the expenses rolled up rather quickly, many dropped out.
His refusal to acknowledge the potential of the crate engine was another nail in the coffin.
Steelback's president appears to be spending his money paying ex jocks to play hockey with him (and using it for tv ads for his suds) and getting Ben Johnson to tout his energy drink.
-
that just goes to show the sad state Alstar was in , the series folded and there was hardly a wimper on the message boards!
-
There has been a rather interesting **RUMOUR** making the rounds since late summer, that Steelback is up to their wazoo in debt.Something about Mr.D`angelo buying too many expensive toys, yadayadayada.**IF**that is the case, and Sauble has lost some large sponsorship, combined with their low car counts, could be a bleak summer at the beach.Lets hope they get it turned around.
And I also agree,Chisolm is the author of his own demise.
-
Actually, I head on the news tonight that the owner of Steelback is putting a bid together to buy the Pittsburg Penguins. He'd also had an interest in a CFL team.
-
Ooooh, this series demise didn't surprise me in the least,as I could see it coming fast in a hurry. It was going down for the past few years and if Joe isn't careful and begin to treat all the drivers with respect he might not have a decent Saturday night show either.I looked on the website and there isn't many regular drivers signed up right now so who knows.

It's still early for rosters to be posted already. I'd like to see them posted now, as it would give us something to talk about over the off-season (lol) but half the tracks haven't even had their registration/general meetings yet (ie. Kawartha, Flamboro) so it's too early to tell.
As a side note, will Tyler Williams be doing both Sauble and Varney next season in the LLM, or just Sauble? Hopefully he does some traveling with the LM to go with it...
EDIT: Looks like someone at Delaware read my mind, lol...
-
Seems to me that Sauble already had their rule and registration day .......but I know there could be the last minute rush when the season opens for the drivers to come forward.
