Petty Raceway Doubles Up This Saturday Evening

Point champions crowned in four divisions Saturday

(RIVER GLADE, NB) September 7th, 2017 - Petty International Raceway will decide season long point champions in four stock car racing divisions on Saturday evening during their Championship Point Finale. Season titles will be handed out in the Limited Late Model, Westwood Estates Street Stock, Mister Transmission Mini Stock and Leisure Days RV Bandolero divisions with each running two point paying features to close their season. The MJS Holdings Limited East Coast Mini Stock Tour will run their third race of the season as they make their only stop at Petty International Raceway. Racing on Saturday, September 9th, gets under way with qualifying at 4pm.

The biggest cushion for any point leader is in the Limited Late Model division where Kenny MacKenzie Jr. (Salisbury, NB) comfortably holds down the top spot. MacKenzie Jr. has won the last three events in the Limited Late Model class including the most recent event, the 53rd Jones Auto Body River Glade International. His point lead is 30 points on Jordan Veinotte (Porters Lake, NS) and with each position in a heat and feature being separated by one point; Veinotte will have a tall hill to climb even with two feature events on track for the division.

Neal Crawford (Salisbury, NB) sits just six points off the pace of Veinotte for the runner-up spot in the standings while rookie Justin Beers (Moncton, NB) will need to find 20 points to claw his way to third after Twin 50 lap features on Saturday evening.

The leading Rookie of the Year contender in the Westwood Estates Street Stock division also leads overall in the division heading into the final point night of the season. Logan Power (Riverview, NB) leads Mike Duskey (Albany, PE) by 16 points with a pair of 25-lap features to run on Saturday night. Power is looking for his first track championship in his young career while Duskey is looking to avenge a second place finish in the standings a year ago to eventual Street Stock champion “The Thrill Maker” Craig Ward (Riverview, NB). Ironically, the car that Power pilots at Petty International Raceway is the car Ward drove to the championship a year prior.

Four points out of the runner-up spot in the standings is Nick Cudmore (Goshen, NB). Cudmore has won the last two Westwood Estates Street Stock races at the track following the winning cars in both events failing post race technical inspection. James “Hollywood” Matchett (Miramichi, NB) and Ryan Richard (Saint John, NB) are deadlocked for fourth in the standings, 15 points behind Cudmore and only six markers up on rookie Michael Cormier (Grand Barachois, NB).

Tim Webster (Beaver Bank, NS) will look to go back-to-back in the Mister Transmission Mini Stock division as season champion. Webster leads by 15 points over Mike Edwards (Penobsquis, NB) with two 20-lap features to decide the champion of the four cylinder division. Edwards is the most recent winner in the division after JR Lawson (Shubenacadie, NS) failed post race technical inspection at the 53rd Jones Auto Body River Glade International. Webster and Edwards will fight it out among themselves for the title as the next nearest competitor in the championship chase, Miramichi’s Michael Savoie, is 43 points behind Edwards. Chris Garnett (Havelock, NB) and Lawson (Shubenacadie, NS) complete the top five in the standings.

A new Leisure Days RV Bandolero champion will be crowned after the dust settles from two 15-lap features. Nathan Blackburn (Timberlea, NS) is hanging on by a thread as he leads Sam Rogers (Lower Onslow, NS) by a single point. Josh Langille (Coldbrook, NS) is just seven points from the top spot while local favorite Koven Lewis (Salisbury, NB) is just 23 markers out of the top spot. This division is sure to come down to the last laps on Saturday evening as the quartet have their eyes set on their first track championship at Petty International Raceway.

Track championships in the Modified and Women on Wheels classes will be determined on Friday, September 22nd during the Mike Stevens Memorial Weekend.

The MJS Holdings Limited East Coast Mini Stock Tour will run their third point race of the season with a 50-lap feature on Saturday presented by Gilmet Designs. Complete information on the series, including a race preview, can be found at EastCoastMiniStockTour.com.

Grandstand admission prices for Saturday are $20 for adults and $10 for youth aged eight to 18, while children seven years of age and under will be admitted free. Pit admission is $25 and is restricted to those 16 years of age and older. Pit gates for competitors open at 12pm, grandstand gates open for spectators at 2pm with racing getting underway at 4pm.
