Mackenzie Jr. Closes Season with Petty Limited Late Model Win

(October 8th, 2016 – River Glade, NB) – Kenny Mackenzie Jr (Salisbury, NB) took home his first career Late Model victory at Petty International Raceway Saturday with the win in the Limited Late Model 75. The race was held over from the Mike Stevens Memorial Weekend in September.

MacKenzie Jr. started on the pole and led wire-to-wire in the 75-lap affair. The battle for second was an intense one throughout the feature with Miramichi, NB’s Brady Creamer finishing second over Ken MacKenzie Sr. (Salisbury, NB). Oyster Bed Speedway Late Model Champion Chris Hughes (Brackley, PE) started 11th on the field to finish fourth ahead of Matt Maillet (Burton, NB) in fifth.

Twelve cars started the main event on Saturday that featured only two yellow flags and took less than 30 minutes to complete.

In the Mister Transmission Mini Stock division, it was Dave Matthews (Kennetcook, NS) winning the held over feature from the Mike Stevens Memorial Weekend on September 25th. Matthews led the final 12 laps from the restart and would finish ahead of Logan Power (Riverview, NB) and Patricia Taylor (Salisbury, NB).

The Mister Transmission Mini Stocks ran an addition 25-lap feature on the afternoon, won by Mike Weagle (Salisbury, NB). Weagle had to rally back from a practice crash to take the win in the second feature of the day. Petty International Raceway track champion Tim Webster (Beaver Bank, NS) was second followed by Matthews. Matthews and Weagle won Mini Stock heats to qualify for the 25-lap feature.

The Extreme Window and Entrance Systems Street Stocks saw track champion Craig Ward (Riverview, NB) live up to his “The Thrill Maker” nickname by making a smooth pass for the top spot over Brad MacLean (Miramichi, NB) for the top spot 13 laps into the 30 lap feature. MacLean finished second while Jeff MacInnis (Summerside, PE) held off a hard charging Destiny Enkel (Saint John, NB) for the final podium spot. MacInnis and MacLean won the Street Stock Heats.

Josh Langille (Coldbrook, NS) won a thrilling Leisure Days RV Bandolero feature in a photo finish over 2016 track champion Michael Cormier (Grand-Barachois, NB). The two also battled in the heat race earlier in the day with Cormier coming home with the victory in the qualifier. Third place in the feature belonged to Nathan Langille (Coldbrook, NS).

Tom Betts (Doaktown, NB) scored his second consecutive Atlantic Modified Tour victory at Petty International Raceway by winning an exciting 50-lap feature. Kevin Bailey (Minto, NB), who led many laps early, finished in second with Mike “Sparky” Raeburn (Hampton, NB) in third. The pace by Betts was so torrid that only the top three finished on the lead lap. Doug Matchett (Miramichi, NB) and point leader Justin Beers (Moncton, NB) won Atlantic Modified Tour heat races. Beers will lead the championship into the final round of the series next Saturday, October 15th at Speedway Miramichi.

Complete feature results will be available at PettyRaceway.com early in the upcoming week.
