Chris Raabe wins initial Canadian Nationals at Cornwall Speedway!

Cornwall, Ont – Sunday, July 2, 2017 – Martin Bélanger – A very busy evening was on tap at Cornwall Motor Speedway as the remake of the Canadian Nationals Modified Series, the Ultimate Pro-Stock Series, the Cindy Ladouceur-Danny Lefebvre Memorial, Street-Stocks and Sportsman on Alexandria Home Hardware night.

Luke Whitteker took the lead in the initial round of Canadian Nationals as a good battle occurred for second spot between Danny Johnson and Chris Raabe. A few cautions happened in the first 10 laps. Whitteker still in front with Raabe pulling away on second over Johnson. The leaders got into traffic by lap 25 as Michael Parent and Steve Bernier joined the top 5. Several position changes behind the top 3 as we got to lap 50, with Corey Wheeler joined the top 5 but got a little out of shape. Whitteker the leader with Chris Raabe and Steve Bernard in third by lap 75, several caution occurred in these first laps cutting the rhythm a little bit. Several battles went on in the next 25 laps with Whitteker the leader. A lap 103 restart saw Whitteker bobbled and Raabe took the lead from him with Bernard following closely. Raabe never looked back and captured his first Canadian Nationals Series over Whitteker and Bernard.

In the initial Ultimate Pro-Stock Series race, Dave Bissonnette was the early leader over Stephane Lebrun. Bissonnette alone in front with a good battle for third. On lap 9, the rain picked up and caution was out for the safety of the drivers. The rain let off and green lights were back on with Bissonnette in the lead. The leader got tangled with a car that was headed to the pits and lost his first place to Lebrun. A severe accident occurred at halfway point involving 7 cars as some of them had severe damage. The final portion saw a good battle between George Renaud and Lebrun. Veteran racer, Renaud was able to keep the lead and went on to win his first race of the season.

The 25-lap Tracy Wheeler Assist2Sell Sportsman saw Derek Cryderman picking up the early lead as several caution slowed the field down. Making his way up was Tristan Draper, both Cryderman and Draper went on battle for the lead in the last few laps as Draper passed Cryderman and won his second feature race in a row.

The shorten 20-lap street-stock event saw Wade Purchase take the lead over Marco Gilbert, both drivers had a good battle as both collide in a racing incident a Gilbert went on to win the feature event.

The rain began to fall hard as we was ready to start the 25-lap Cindy Ladouceur Mini-Stock feature, the event will be rescheduled sometime in July.

One of the biggest shows of the season is at our door as the Super DIRTcar Big-Block Series is in town this coming Sunday along with a full program.
