Grassroots Racing Tackles the Eastern Ontario Legends Series With a 2 Car Tag-Team

By Jim Clarke, Clarke Motorsports Communications/First Draft Media

An exciting, new short track racing series is about to launch its inaugural season and the two-car team from Grassroots Racing looks to be front row centre as the Eastern Ontario Legends Series kicks things off – Saturday, May 20th – at Peterborough Speedway. With a solid background in Legends racing – including respective 4th and 9th place point finishes in the 2016 OLS standings – Cole and Andrew McFadden are fine-tuning their equipment for the year’s first green flag.

From humble beginnings in a Mini Stock that carried the handwritten message “small boy, big dreams” on its yellow rookie stripe, Cole McFadden became the youngest feature event winner track history, taking the checkered flag at Peterborough at the age of 12; a record that still stands to this day. A recent graduate of the Mechanical Engineering Program at Georgian College, the 20 year-old from Woodville, Ontario has advanced through the racing ranks and has also made selected starts in an OSCAAR Modified.

While watching his son’s development from the sidelines and serving as coach and mentor for the young speedster, Andrew McFadden caught the driving bug himself, racing motocross for a number of years and then transitioning to modifieds at the former Mosport International Speedway in 2003, before making his debut in the popular, scaled-down machines during the 2010 campaign. The father of 2 – who also works as an Auto Fab teacher at Dunbarton High School in Pickering – will serve on the Board of Directors with the Eastern Ontario Legends Series. He says he’s looking forward to the challenges that lie ahead.

“Cole and I are both counting on a strong season of action,” Andrew McFadden said. “The new series has gained a lot of positive exposure and teams will be running for some impressive purses at Peterborough, Sunset and Grand Bend Speedways. We’ll also have a couple of National Qualifiers that will give drivers a chance to represent EOLS this fall at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, which should bring some new talent onto the tour.”

Andrew McFadden says he’s pleased to have long-time marketing partners Alex McLeod Legal Services, Link Climate Care, Manilla Chip Truck, DiBello Towing, Red Line Apparel and Grassroots Racing return to the family-owned #02 and #20 rides for the Eastern Ontario Legends Series schedule. The team recently welcomed Brad Davidson Construction and is also interested in hearing from prospective advertisers who are looking for exciting opportunities for 2017 and beyond.
