Fredericton Volkswagen Triple 50s!!!
Posted on September 11th, 2008

Fredericton, NB - After a weekend off for some well deserved R&R, Speedway 660 will return back to its regular season for yet another WicKID event of the 2008 season. This Saturday will be the triple header 50 lap feature for all three divisions including the Coast Tire Street Stocks, The Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman and the Irving Lubricants Pro Stocks.

“We decided last year to put a twist on a points race at some point in the season” said co-owner Steven Burns, “After scheduling a triple header 50 in 2007 and not being able to run it due to weather we wanted to try again “. “The guys [drivers] have been talking about it and we hope every enjoys this years event with a great sponsor like Fredericton Volkswagen” said co-owner Chris Johnston.

This event is one of a kind in the Maritimes and not only will this weekend’s race feature a twist, but the start time also has a twist. This Saturday is the turning point for the fall start times of 2pm. This will be a change for everyone with the last two races starting in the afternoon and hopefully getting everyone home before the sunset.

With only two weeks to go the drivers are counting down the laps and the points they need to gain a position or potentially win a championship. In the Coast Tire Street Stock Division, Rick Cashol in the #54 could be one his way to another championship with a 21 point lead over second place contender and Geary native Matt Matheson in the #2. Not to far behind the pair is Jason Shannon in the #20 who is 33 points within a potential championship as well. In the Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman division Brian Gillespie in the #69 could possibly be on his way to a 7th championship title if he can hold of the second place contender of Glyn Nott in the #12. Currently between the two drivers there is a 15 point different between Gillespie and Nott while Burton native, Matt Maillet in the #29 is within championship reach with a 37 point difference behind Gillespie. In the Irving Lubricants Pro Stock division Greg Fahey in the #20 currently holds a 28 point lead over the #87 of Matt Harris. Not far behind the pair, within a 31 point distance is the #17 of Brent Wiggins. Out of the top three contenders in the chase, none of the drivers have ever obtained a Pro Stock division championship. This year could be a first for one of the three.

As the season comes closer to an end fans and drivers are trying to get in every last bit of racing. Make sure you don’t miss the Fredericton Volkswagen Triple Header 50 lap feature in the Geary woods Saturday afternoon. This will be one event you won’t want to miss, it’s sure to be WicKID.
