Bourgeois Scores First River Glade International Win in Jones Auto Body Sportsman 125

(River Glade, NB -  August 27th, 2016) - Petty International Raceway point leader Luc Bourgeois (Memramcook, NB) took the lead on Lap 96 in the Jones Auto Body River Glade International Sportsman 125 and held on from that point to take home the victory Friday night. Bourgeois had to hold off two former River Glade International champions in Russell Smith Jr (Lakeside, NS) and Frank Fraser (Shubenacadie, NS) for his first win in the event.
“This is my biggest win of my career,” said Bourgeois of the victory.

Laurie Cormier (Memramcook, NB) and Colby Smith (Cape Sable Island, NS) brought their entries home fourth and fifth, respectively, in the main feature. Marc Williams (Cocagne, NB), Cormier and Fraser took heat wins to set the field for the Jones Auto Body 125.

The race was slowed by a number of cautions, including six in the last 35 laps of the race. Twenty-five cars started the race.

Mike Weagle (Salisbury, NB) won a caution free Mister Transmission Mini Stock feature as he drove away from current point leader Tim Webster (Beaver Bank, NS) and JR Lawson (Shubenacadie, NS).Weagle swept the evening by winning his heat race while Irishtown, NB’s Rob Poirier took the first 10-lap qualifier for the class.

“The Thrill Maker” Craig Ward (Riverview, NB) held off a hard charging Mike Duskey (Albany, PE) in a caution free Extreme Windows and Entrance Systems Street Stock feature for an emotional first victory on Jones Auto Body River Glade International Weekend. The former Sportsman driver had tried many times to win a feature at this event but had failed to convert a run on the prestigious weekend into a checkered flag. Jeff MacInnis (Summerside, PE) made good on his first Petty International Raceway start by finishing third. MacInnis and Ward won heat races to set the field for the feature.

Tom Betts worked his way to the front of the Atlantic Modified Tour feature and walked away in a caution free 35-lap feature for the series. Second place belonged to Justin Beers with Doug Matchett rounding off the podium. Cody Price and Joe Hoyt won heat races for the Atlantic Modified Tour.

Complete feature results will be available at PettyRaceway.com when official.

The Jones Auto Body River Glade International weekend continues on Saturday, August 27th with the running of the Cummins 150 for the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour. Also on the card is the MacDonald Buick GMC Moncton 50 for the Upper Clements Parks Maritime League of Legends Tour and the Leisure Days RV Bandoleros. Racing begins at 6pm.
