MacDonald Seals Second Consecutive Win in Island ICF 50

(Oyster Bed Bridge, PE - July 3rd 2018) - Craig MacDonald (Waverley, NS) drove to the front of the field at Oyster Bed Speedway on Saturday night to win the Maritime League of Legends Tour’s Island ICF Incorporated 50. The race, which served as an INEX Asphalt Nationals Regional Qualifier, is MacDonald’s second straight win on the Series and first in a Legend car at the Oyster Bed Bridge, Prince Edward Island track.

MacDonald, who won his qualifying heat race, started eighth on the field due after winning the most recent round on the Series. After battling an oil leak for most of the day, MacDonald wasted little time getting to the front. MacDonald found himself battling with most recent Oyster Bed Speedway winner Shelby Baker (Fall River, NS) for the checkered flag. The two pulled away from the field and swapped the lead on restarts with MacDonald getting the upper hand to win the Island ICF Incorporated 50.

Emily Meehan (Rawdon Gold Mines, NS) fought through traffic and would pull away from the pack to finish third on the evening, her first podium run at the 1/3-mile oval. Michael Cormier (Grand Barachois, NB) would edge Sam Rogers (Lower Onslow, NS), who was making his Maritime League of Legends Tour debut, for fourth in the Island ICF Incorporated 50. The battle, which was won by just over a tenth of a second, would also give Cormier the Fleet Brake Atlantic Rookie of the Race Award.

MacDonald and Sherwood won 10-lap qualifying heat races. Fifteen drivers entered the event with only 13 answering the call to the green flag. All drivers that started the race completed all 50-laps with no drivers finishing a lap down.

Danny Harvey (Lantz, NS) experienced engine problems during the first heat while motor issues would also sideline Cody Byrne (Orwell Cove, PE) before he was able to make his Legend car debut. The 50-lap feature took 24 minutes to complete.

Top drivers in each INEX sanctioned division included MacDonald (Semi-Pro, first overall), Baker (Pro, second overall), Rogers (Young Lion, fifth overall) and Darren Sherwood (Masters, sixth overall, Cambridge Narrows, NB). With the Island ICF Incorporated 50 being an INEX Asphalt Nationals Regional Qualifier, all four drivers will be eligible for a provisional starting spot in Asphalt Nationals. The Asphalt Nationals event for 2018 will be held on Saturday, October 27th at The Bulling at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in Las Vegas, Nevada.

About ICF: Insulated Concrete Forms and BernMar Construction:
BernMar Construction has used LOGIX ICF since 2006 and our employees are trained in the knowledge and installation of this product. ICF – Insulated Concrete Forms – is basically a Styrofoam form that is  filled with concrete and creates a very strong and efficient exterior wall system for houses, apartments, warehouses, etc. With the rise in energy costs, specifically home heating, this has turned out to be a good move for us especially since there are few builders on the Island using this product. Find more information on ICF at BernMarConstruction.com.
