JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Set to Open 2016 Season at Springport Motor Speedway Sunday

Salem, IN (April 26, 2016) – The JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by Chevrolet Performance is set to open its 2016 points season this weekend at the fast 3/8’s mile semi-banked paved oval of Springport Motor Speedway, located in Springport, Michigan. This will be the sixth season of competition for the Crate Motor Template Late Model series sanctioned by Champion Racing Association. Past series Champions include inaugural Champion Erik Jones in 2011, Daniel Hemric in 2012, Cody Coughlin in 2013, Dan Leeck in 2014, Dalton Armstrong was the 2015 Drivers Champion while Bill Burba was the 2015 Owners Champion.

The Cabin Fever 100 for the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour will be part of a huge weekend of racing action at Springport Motor Speedway that could include up to six features on the racing program. Besides the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour, the Broaster Chicken ICAR Top Speed Modifieds will be in action with their North Tour season opener. Also racing will be the ABC Stock Cars utilizing Spartan Speedway regulations, rules and purse structure while the Compacts/Pony Stocks will also be in action and they will also utilize Spartan Speedway regulations, rules and purse structure.

Topping the list of 33 entries to date for Sunday’s Cabin Fever 100 is 2014 series Champion Dan Leeck and the September 2015 Springport event winner Steve Dorer from Lakeland, Florida. 2015 Rookie of the Year Quinnton Bear is entered in the Scott Neal Racing Team #4. Also entered is Jack Smith, a three time series winner in the last four races of the 2015 season, ARCA/CRA Super Series event winner Brandon Oakley and JEGS/CRA All-Stars event winner Eric Lee.

A strong group of talented Michigan drivers is entered including 12 time Kalamazoo Speedway Champion Andy Bozell and his son Phil, also a Kalamazoo Champion, along with Trevor Berry, Kyle Hayden, David McManus, Chris Koslek, Ben Welch, Jay Sommers, Jerry Andrews, Lindsey VanDoorn and Dean Gassert.

The entry list contains even more talent including Indiana’s D.J. Weltmeyer, Kentucky’s Dakota Stroup, Illinois teenager Austin Kunert, and Canadian racers Tristan Van Wieringen, Donnie Varcoe, Jaxson Jacobs, and his sister Paighton Jacobs, who is entered to make her series debut.

As announced last week, the series has a large and very talented group of Howie Lettow Rookie of the Year Award Presented by VanDoorn Racing Development drivers including Travis Eddy, son of ASA National Tour legend Mike Eddy, former CRA Late Model Sportsman competitors Jack Dossey Jr. and Jared Thomas, Hope Hornish the niece of Indy car and NASCAR driver Sam Hornish Jr., Flat Rock Speedway Outlaw Late Model racer Clarity Newhouse, Owosso Speedway Sportsman racer Mike Clancy Jr., Midwest Truck Series racer Joshua James, Lebanon I-44 Speedway racer Adam Johnson, and Kevin Zielezinski, who has made a handful of starts with the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour the last two seasons.

The weekend will start off with an optional JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour approved rookie open practice on Friday from 2pm until 6pm. There is an open practice for all teams racing on Saturday, pits will open at 11am with rotating practice from 1pm to 6pm. Pits open on Sunday at 9am, practice begins at 12noon with qualifying starting at 2pm. The racing action will begin at 3pm with any Last Chance races needed. The Cabin Fever 100 for the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour will be the first feature of the day followed by the ICAR Top Speed Modifieds feature, possibly three ABC Stock Cars features, and then the Compacts/Pony Stocks feature wrapping up the days racing events.
