ROY RACES TO FIRST BEST OF THE BEST VICTORY

(Geary, NB – July 9th, 2018) – Brent Roy (Hanwell) has won championships in the top two classes at Speedway 660 but was still searching for that first major victory at his home race track.

That search ended Saturday evening as he drove his No. 26 to Riverview Ford Lincoln Victory Lane in the Best of the Best 100 presented by RE/MAX East Coast Elite Realty.

Roy started sixth in the 12-car field but was in the lead position by the 45th lap after taking the lead away from five-time Pro Stock champion Dave O’Blenis (Boundary Creek).  As the leaders began to fade in the second half, Roy’s car stayed strong en route to his first victory of the 2018 season.

“We’ve been waiting 12 years to get to victory lane in one of these extended distance races,” said Roy after the 100-lap race. “This race was won in the shop. My crew and I have worked some late nights getting this car to where it needed to be and it has paid off. I’m thrilled we finally got it done in a big race!”

O’Blenis crossed the line in second, followed by Ryan Messer (Harvey), Greg Fahey (St. Stephen) and Ashton Tucker (Lyttleton).

Heat races were won by Messer and Lonnie Sommerville (Barnesville). Sommerville had a quick race car all night long and was poised to make a bid for the win until the motor let go on the No. 23 car just nine laps into the Best of the Best 100.

Following in the footsteps of her older sister, Courtney O’Blenis (Boundary Creek) became the second driver in the Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman division to pocket two wins in 2018. O’Blenis raced to the feature win ahead of Drew Greenlaw (Eastport, ME) and sister Alexandra O’Blenis (Boundary Creek). The top five was completed by Saint John youngsters Ryan Raynes and Curtis Collins. Robert Raynes (Saint John) and Courtney O’Blenis won heat races in the 11-car field.

Justin Cole (Harvey) drove to his fourth DMR Auto Sales and Service Street Stock victory of 2018 in seven races. Riley Goodwin (MacAdam) backed up his feature win a week ago with a strong second place run with Rick Cashol (Saint John) coming home with his second straight podium finish. Shawn Hyslop (St. Stephen) and Roger Slocum (Chipman) brought home top five feature finishes. Cole and Hyslop picked up heat wins in the final race prior to the Ricky Bobby Street Stock 100.

Scott “Bat Hubby” Kennie (Fredericton) returned to victory lane for the second time in his sophomore Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooter season. Kennie bested Bryan Suttie (Keswick) and Grey Owl (Saint John), who flew to a popular podium finish in his No. 60 car. After post race technical inspection, rookie Randy Titus (French Lake) and BJ Gillespie (Nackawic) were credited with top five finishes. Kennie and Ryan Bernard nailed down heat race victories.

Speedway 660 is idle this weekend to give fans and teams a well deserved weekend off after a seven race stretch to kick off the 25th Anniversary Season at the track. The next event at the track is Saturday, July 21st when the track welcomes the region’s best Street Stock competitors for the Ricky Bobby Street Stock 100 presented by DMR Auto. Over $8500, including a $1500 winner’s cheque, will be on the line in the special event.
