What was up with the no smoking at Sunset & Delaware & what does OLG have to do with it?

Many race fans are "SMOKERS"

Actually has to do with new Ontario regulations that came into force January 1st. Nothing to do with the tracks. I'd felt there had been a good balance met before.

Nothing that I know about in the new Ontario regs that say anything about smoking, all that was added was no smoking on patios and some government properties and parks. Was at Peterborough few weeks back and it was smoking like normal.

Sunset has had no smoking stands for a few years now. The ones in the pits and the ones near the bear garden. I'm sure with the new Ontario regs you can't smoke in the Sunset Beer garden. Short of that, if smoking is banned at the tracks then it would be a choice of the track.

Welcome to nannyism. Fumes, smoke and all the other crap from the cars is alright, but a puff from a cig is not LOL

About 5 years ago Middlesex County adopted a bylaw that prohibited smoking in all places of business.
It doesn't apply to municipalities as they have their own bylaws. It only applies to the county.
No covered in shelters or smoking only rooms. No smoking on the property period.
I've seen a few manufacturing plants with the smoking employees standing at the road during their lunch or break time.
It's got to be pretty hard to police and enforce for county bylaw officers.
I guess that's why they're finally getting around to places like the speedway.
I'm sure other places like golf courses are having it enforced.
Your guess is as good as any ones as how this is going to effect the track.
It puts them in a difficult position.
But,  20 years ago they banned all smoking from London arenas.  There was some fall out and people were angry but they got over it.  It's the norm today.

Unfortunately it's the way the world is headed. Seems a bit silly at the racetrack,  but govt smoking regs never were concerned much with logic. Ask the restaurant owners with patios downtown.

The other week I decided on a beer at the beer garden at Delaware. (Doesnt happen often) I found it comical that I couldn't smoke where I could have my beer, and I couldn't take my beer anywhere that I could smoke. Kinda surreal actually.

But....it was bound to happen sooner or later. I figure if I can sit through a three hour movie without a smoke, then a race should be a snap. And like Just wondering said, people got over it. They will here too.

Still sucks though.

Wanna keep laughing?

They recently changed the liquor laws so you can take your drink with you into the bathroom. Saves women getting date rape drugged or I guess just keeps someone from spitting in your beer.

Now if you want to have a smoke anywhere you have to leave to drink behind. LOL, which was the exact problem they had before with the drinks in the washrooms. LOL

Assclowns at work.
