A great collection of 1970s local racing photo buttons from racenut.

Can you name them?

I'm surprised Pinecrest, I thought for sure you'd be one of the people to get more of the buttons correct. I've got you at 3/12. Admittedly, a few are tricky as different drivers have raced in some of these cars.

I am pretty sure I have at least 5 or 6 right but dont be afraid to jump in there with your guesses now that you have the benifit of all my mistakes  ;)

It wouldn't be fair to guess. I sent statsman the photos. I get a kick out of seeing some of these old pictures that others have submitted. Do you have any old pix to share pinecrest? It seems you've taken in a lot of races over the years. There are a lot of racers from years gone by that are just faded memories. If anyone has anything from the early to mid 70's from Speedway Park, Pinecrest, or Cayuga I wouldn't mind seeing them. I have a lot of old racing papers with a lot of cool stuff but actual pictures are better. I'll have to spend some time on statsmans site to see what I remember.

I or should I say my family have 4  scrap books each the size of the Toronto phone book full of pics and newpaper clippings going back to 1952 or 1953 . I dont have  them at this location but I will try to get hold of them in the near future and post some of the stuff in it .

That would be great pinecrest.  '52-'53 is way before my time but I would still be interested in seeing them. I have some papers with Cayuga as a dirt track. A bit before my time as well, but still cool to see.

Isn't the car on the top right (#17) Stan Pokupec?

And I'm pretty sure I see Jr Hanley twice!

OK here's my best shot.

Middle top is Hanley early 80s.
Top right is Pokupec.

Next 2 I'll go along with Pinecrest
Middle row left looks like Book
Middle row center is Makara

Bottom left is Hanley mid 70s (74/75 maybe...same era as the Makara one. He started using orange soon after this one)

So...how long till we get the definitive answers?

OK we have figured out that there are two Hanley cars  and Makara I think those are locks. I am going along with #17 being Pokupec and I don't see how the #47 can be anyone but Ralph Book unless his son was driving the car and I think he would have been to young for that year of car . The # 41 is a Disc Jockey Unlimited car of Sid's which was a 74/75 chevelle that I think Ward built for them that never worked worth crap but Sid solution to a bad car was always change the driver Vic Parsons Jack Cook Jack Hollis and maybe Terry Kitchen and Max Durr all had a turn at the wheel . There was probally other drivers that drove for him but I cant remember who they were right now. The #7 car at the bottom sure looks like Art Clarks first Camaro when he stitched from Dodges after they banned big blocks.

I didn't know that statsman was going to post these as a contest. lol. I thought it was fun that way though.

#41 Vic Parsons (Others have driven it as stated. It is quite possible that it is Jack Hollis, I can't make out the driver in the photo, but I liked Parsons)
#72 Jr. Hanley (this one was obvious)
 #17 Stan Pokupec (I actually had a Pokupec/Acklands racing T-shirt)
#47 Ken Nichols (I knew this one would be tricky. This picture was from early 1974. I don't know if anyone else remembers, but this is the car Kenny got pinched into the wall with at Flamboro. The car climbed the wall and hit the starter. The starter was still standing in the box on top of the wall at the time. Racing was cancelled for the rest of the evening. A new raised starters stand box was built after this accident. Booky was taking a break of some sort from racing and returned to the #47 at the end of the '74 season. They switched to Camaros in '75. We were Kenny Nichols fans, going back to the #1 blue '57 chevy. I don't know how true it was, but the story was that Ralph wouldn't let Ken finish out the season in the #47. That didn't sit well with us Nichols' fans, so we always booed Booky after that. lol. I was only about 9 years old at the time though. Does anyone else know the true? story?)
#42 Jerry "the bear" Makara (This one should have been easy too)
#07 Nick Lapcevich (I thought this one would be easy as well. Lapcevich drove the #07 chevelle and then the Camaro. Pete Hudson also drove a #07, but a different one)
#72 Jr. Hanley (I have lots of variations of Hanley cars including the car that he took back from Dick Trickle and just renumbered it from #99 to #72 and raced it at Flamboro)
#12 Pete Mikolajcuk (Admittedly, I had to look up the last name in an old program for this one. I knew it was Pete but couldn't remember his last name)
 #7 Art Clark (as guessed)

Again, I didn't know that these photos were going to turn into a guessing game. I hope it was fun and brought back some (fond?) memories.

My thought on the #41 was that it is Jack Hollis. I am pretty sure that Vic didn't drive the D.J. Unlimited car until it was a Camaro.

I was also fooled by the #47 and didn't know the 07 or the 12 as I'd not seen those cars. I thought the 17 was Pokupec but wasn't sure on that one.

Fun stuff though. Anybody else got any buttons?
