R&D Performancenter 50 Presented by Scotia Tire to Determine Maritime League of Legends Tour Champion

SACKVILLE, NB (September 13th, 2017) - The Maritime League of Legends Tour will crown their 2017 champion on Saturday afternoon at Scotia Speedworld in the R&D Performancenter 50 presented by Scotia Tire. The 50-lap feature is the ninth and final event of the season and third stop to Scotia Speedworld on the year. The R&D Performancenter 50 presented by Scotia Tire is a part of the Season Finale weekend at Scotia Speedworld and is the appetizer round to the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour’s Dartmouth Dodge 200. Racing begins on Saturday, September 16th at 4pm.

Waylon Farrell (Conception Bay South, NL) enters as the championship point leader as he looks to successfully defend the Maritime League of Legends Tour championship earned in 2016. Farrell blew a motor in the early laps of the A.L. Gullison DKI 50 presented by Ideal Equipment at Speedway 660, which sliced his point lead down to 19 points heading into the season finale. While the margin is not as comfortable as it was entering the previous event, it is a manageable one. Farrell can clinch the championship with an eighth place finish, regardless of what any other driver does on the race track. Outside of his finish at Speedway 660, his worst finish on the season is a sixth place run in August at Oyster Bed Speedway.

Justin MacNeill (Bedford, NS) has had an impressive season and enters the R&D Performancenter 50 presented by Scotia Tire as the hunter to Farrell’s championship position. MacNeill has two runner-up finishes this season at Speedway 660 and Oyster Bed Speedway and four top five finishes in the eight races on the 2017 season. He enters with a 28 point cushion on the third place battle for point positions.

That battle for third in the standings is going to be one for the ages. Adam Meehan (Rawdon Gold Mines, NS) will try to hold off stock car veteran Darren Sherwood (Cambridge Narrows, NB) at Meehan's home track. Only two points separate the pair heading into the R&D Performancenter 50 presented by Scotia Tire. Should either falter, it will open the door for Adam’s older sister Emily Meehan. “Miss Rawdon Rocket” enters only 17 points behind her brother and will look to finish off 2017 strong.

Kyle Shipley (Spryfield, NS) has a healthy 41 point lead on Kody Quinn (Sydney, NS) in the Rookie of the Year battle. Shipley has had Mike “The Outlaw” Umlah (Stewiacke, NS) and David Jollimore (Halifax, NS) pinch hit for him in the No. 28 Pizza Pro Legend in the past two races to preserve his spot atop the rookie standings. Shipley also holds down the final top ten spot in the standings with one race to go.

With this race being the final for the INEX Legend division in the Maritimes for the 2017 calendar year, most will be gunning for the win in search of bragging rights as much as championship points. A number of Halifax based drivers will be out in full force in hopes of taking the final Legend checkered flag until May 2018. The first two appearances to Scotia Speedworld for the Maritime League of Legends Tour in 2017 have produced fields of 23 and 24 cars, respectively.

Admission for Saturday’s event at Scotia Speedworld is $30.00 for adults; $8.00 for youth; pit admission is $35.00. Tickets for the R&D Performancenter 50 presented by Scotia Tire can be purchased at the gates of Scotia Speedworld on race day.
