Stock Car Stars Invade Petty International Raceway on Saturday Night

(River Glade, NB - June 8th, 2017) - Petty International Raceway will host the cars and stars of Eastern Canada’s biggest Late Model touring series for the first time in 2017 on Saturday, June 10th. The Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour will highlight the stock car racing event on the high banked oval this weekend with a 150-lap feature. The race program will also mark the second event of the season for the Petty International Raceway Limited Late Model, Westwood Estates Street Stock and Mister Transmission Mini Stock divisions. Qualifying on Saturday evening begins at 6pm.

Petty International Raceway’s stock car season hit the ground running on Sunday, May 28th, thrilling fans with an action packed card to kick off the Summer of 2017. The debut of the Limited Late Model class on a regular basis at the track was a hit with fans and teams alike. Russell Smith Jr. (Lakeside, NS) returned to the track which he owns multiple Sportsman wins and a championship at and paced the field to victory in the first Limited Late Model feature of the year. Brady Creamer (Miramichi, NB) stepped into the #41 Dulux Paints Chevrolet and drove it to a second place finish over local fan favorite Kenny MacKenzie Jr (Salisbury, NB). A 50-lap main feature for the Limited Late Models will set the stage for the Pro Stocks on Saturday evening.

A long off-season of hard work paid off for Westwood Estates Street Stock rookie Logan Power (Riverview, NB) as he captured the season opener in the class. The former Mini Stock standout won both his heat and feature on May 28th, besting a 12 car field. Chuck Mercer (Mount Hebron, NB) and Brad MacLean (Miramichi, NB) stood beside Power on the podium. The competitive class will thrill fans for 30-laps on Saturday.

Tim Webster (Beaver Bank, NS) returned to championship form early in the season by winning the first Mister Transmission Mini Stock feature of the year in May. Webster, who won the season opener in 2016 en route to his first track championship in the province, had to earn the right to hold the first checkered flag of 2017 as he dueled with former track champions Mike Weagle (Salisbury) and Deven Smith (Lakeside, NS). Mike Edwards also flexed his muscle to open the season, finishing third behind Webster and Weagle. The high flying four cylinders will open the show Saturday with a 25-lap main event.

The Leisure Days RV Bandolero and Modified divisions are idle this weekend but will return to the high banked oval on Saturday, July 8th during the next Petty International Raceway event, the MetalCore/D.R. Scrap Metals Night of Destruction.
