Maritime Legends Challenge Presented by Celtic Air Services Set for Friday the 13th

(BEDFORD, NS - July 11th, 2018) - The Maritime League of Legends Tour heads to Riverside International Speedway this Friday, July 13th for the Maritime Legends Challenge presented by Celtic Air Services. The 50-lap feature is the kick off to the Steve Lewis presents the IWK 250 Super Weekend and serves as the third of ten rounds on the Maritime League of Legends Tour for 2018. Racing begins on Friday the 13th at 7pm.

Craig MacDonald (Waverley, NS) has been undefeated when it comes to Maritime League of Legends Tour feature competition in 2018. MacDonald dominated the R&D Performancenter 50 at Scotia Speedworld on May 26th and wrestled the lead away from Shelby Baker (Fall River, NS) during the June 30th running of the Island ICF Incorporated 50 at Oyster Bed Speedway. MacDonald and the No. 98 Overall Collision Legend will look to not only extend his win streak on Friday night but also his point lead after two races on the Series.

Behind MacDonald, as can be expected after two races, is a tight point battle heading into the Maritime Legends Challenge presented by Celtic Air Services. Two podium finishes has placed Baker in second after two races and is a dozen markers off MacDonald for the top spot. “Miss Rawdon Rocket” Emily Meehan (Rawdon Gold Mines, NS) heads to one of her strongest tracks in third in the standings, one point ahead of the leading Fleet Brake Atlantic Rookie racer Michael Cormier (Grand-Barachois, NB). Cormier, nicknamed “The Flying Frenchman,” has a nine point advantage on the No. 12 car in the overall standings. The No. 12 will be driven on Friday evening at Riverside International Speedway by Fleet Brake Atlantic Rookie from Lower Onslow, Nova Scotia in Sam Rogers, who will make his first start on the high banked track.

The Maritime Legends Challenge presented by Celtic Air Services will see the return of two-time and reigning Series champion Waylon Farrell (Conception Bay South, NL). Farrell, who is the leading rookie on the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour, along with his brother Will Farrell (Conception Bay South, NL), will be looking for the big trophy on Friday night to kick off the IWK 250 Super Weekend in style. Newfoundland will also be represented by Portugal Cove’s Michael Neary. The Bandolero graduate has won the first four races at Avondale’s Eastbound Park, including last Sunday’s INEX National Qualifier for the Province.

The 2017 edition of the Maritime Legends Challenge provided one of the most exciting battles in recent Maritime League of Legends Tour history. A spirited battle between young stars Braden Langille (Shubenacadie, NS) and Cory Hall (Jolicure, NB) ended with Hall in victory lane. Hall, the reigning INEX Winter Nationals Pro division champion, is pre-registered to defend his Maritime Legends Challenge crown on Friday.

The field for the Maritime Legends Challenge presented by Celtic Air Services is deep in talent. Multiple time INEX Eastern Canadian Masters champion Paul Goulden (Shelburne, NS), former Scotia Speedworld Thunder car feature winners Shane and Andrew Lively (Middle Sackville, NS) and Tylor Hawes (Porter’s Lake, NS) and Bandolero titlists Adam Meehan (Rawdon Gold Mines, NS) and Josh Langille (Coldbrook, NS) just scratch the surface of the depth.

The field also includes Masters competitors Ray Cox Jr. (Porter’s Lake, NS), Jeff Cruickshank (Hantsport, NS), Gary Bordage (Dartmouth, NS) and Darren Sherwood (Cambridge Narrows, NB) along with Matt Moore (Falmouth, NS), who is a multiple time feature winner in both Sportsman and Legend competition.

Fleet Brake Atlantic Rookies Nathan Blackburn (Timberlea, NS), Jody Fraser (Tangier, NS) and Kyle McEachern (Charlottetown, PE) will join Cormier and Rogers in looking for a big night at Riverside International Speedway on Friday. Matt Myers (Elmsdale, NS), while no longer a rookie, is looking for his first Maritime League of Legends Tour win in Friday’s Maritime Legends Challenge presented by Celtic Air Services.

The pre-registration list for Friday’s Maritime Legends Challenge presented by Celtic Air Services has 24 drivers on it representing all four Atlantic Provinces. A number of drivers are expected to join the fray on Friday evening that have yet to fill out their paperwork, including Brian Northrup and Maritime Motorsports Hall of Fame Inductee, “The Legend” Cy Harvey (Elmsdale, NS).

NAPA Auto Parts of Antigonish, Port Hawkesbury and New Glasgow have joined the Maritime League of Legends Tour as a marketing partner and will present the NAPA Auto Parts Class Bonuses on Friday evening. The top driver in each INEX division (Pro, Masters, Semi-Pro and Young Lions) at the conclusion of the Maritime Legends Challenge presented by Celtic Air Services will receive an added $150 bonus.

The Maritime Legends Challenge presented by Celtic Air Services is the third of ten races on the 2018 season for the Maritime League of Legends Tour and first of two stops at Riverside International Speedway. Also included on the Friday, July 13th card is the second round for the NAPA Sportsman Series as they contest a 150-lap feature presented by Henry’s AutoPRO.
