ATLANTIC CAT 250 WEEKEND OFFERS PACKED LINE UP FOR RACE FANS

(Halifax, NS, August 9, 2017) The Atlantic Cat 250, Halifax’s most anticipated stock car racing weekend of the season is just around the corner. This Friday and Saturday Scotia Speedworld will host two nights of full throttle excitement. Friday night the Affordable Fuels Sportsman will kick things off as they go head-to-head in a 150 lap showcase. Saturday race fans will see the stars of the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour in the weekend’s main event, the 18th running of the prestigious Atlantic Cat 250. Approximately 25 teams will battle for their piece of the $60,000 purse and contingency funds and the opportunity to engrave their name on the Scott Fraser Memorial Cup.

Friday night the Affordable Fuels Sportsman division will take on the best in the Maritimes when the green flag flies for the Affordable Fuels 150. Jordan Veinotte (Porter's Lake) and Tim Hortons at the Airport Rookie leader Matt Vaughan (Fletchers Lake) have each won one feature this season while Travis Roma (West Chezzetcook) has two victories to his credit - including an emotional win in the Shriners Classic in July.

Russell Smith Jr (Lakeside) enters as the four time and defending champion of the event and will look for a fifth, but will be up against stiff competition, including fellow former champions Pete Miller (Kennetcook), Colby Smith (Cape Sable Island), Jeff Dillman (Middle Musquodoboit) and last week's feature winner Aaron Boutilier (Porter's Lake). The Sydney area will be well represented as Shawn Waterfield, Chris Reid and Lynden MacDougall are expected to make the haul from Cape Breton.

While there is no official expected entry list for the event, the track is expecting well over 20 cars to run for the checkered flag in the track's longest Late Model Sportsman race in recent history. Joining the Affordable Fuels Sportsman are the Hydraulics Plus Bandoleros, Toursec Thunder & Lightning, and Pulse Heavy Duty Trucks who will all run features only to accommodate the extended distance Sportsman race. Adult tickets are $15.00, Youth $5.00 and children 7 and under are free. (Weekend passes available see below)

Saturday at 5:00pm the cars and stars of the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour take over Scotia Speedworld for the Atlantic Cat 250. Dylan Blenkhorn (Truro, NS) continued his podium streak at the Lucas Oil 150 last weekend; Blenkhorn has been on every podium this season which is why he sits atop of the championship point standings. Shawn Turple (Enfield, NS) still has a third championship ring in his sights with less than 30 points separating him and the leader. 2016 Atlantic Cat 250 winner and reigning Series champion Cole Butcher (Porter’s Lake, NS) will be looking to close the 56 point gap on Blenkhorn as he enters Saturday in third position. Greg Proude (Springvale, PE) sits fourth after his first victory of the season last weekend. Fellow Islander Dylan Gosbee (Cornwall, PE) continues to perform each week which has put him in fifth spot in the chase for the championship.

In addition to winning the 18th edition of the Atlantic Cat 250 and taking home the coveted Scott Fraser Memorial Cup, drivers will also be vying for their piece of the $60,000 purse and lucrative contingency funds, including $6250 in lap money - for each lap a driver leads he will receive $25!

The Atlantic Tiltload Pole Challenge could pad one team’s pockets with up to $2000. All drivers who qualify in the top 15 are eligible to take the Pole Challenge. The driver who takes the challenge moves from the head of the field to the final starting position in the Atlantic Cat 250. Only one driver can accept the challenge – with first option going to the pole winner and if not accepted, moving to 2nd place, and so on. If a driver accepts the challenge they will receive a bonus of $500. An additional $500 will be paid if the driver finishes in the top 10 positions OR an additional $1000 will be paid if the driver finishes in the top 5 positions OR an additional $1500 will be paid to the driver if they win the Atlantic Cat 250.

The Maritime League of Legends will run a 50 lap feature prior to the 18th running of the Atlantic Cat 250.

Gates open at 2:00pm on Saturday with Atlantic Tiltload heat races which will determine the starting line-up for the Atlantic Cat 250 set for 5:00pm. Fans will also enjoy an Autograph Session with the stars of the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour and the cast of the hit television show The Curse of Oak Island prior to the main event.
