Mega MetalCore and D.R. Scrap Metals Night of Destruction Motorsports Card Saturday at Petty Raceway
(River Glade, NB - July 6th, 2017) - Petty International Raceway sees stock car racing return to the high banks this Saturday, July 8th with the MetalCore and D.R. Scrap Metals Night of Destruction. The popular Demolition Derby event will highlight a jam packed night of motorsports action, which will also include various Demolition division events such as a Back Up Race and a Barrel Race for Demolition competitors. The excitement begins on Saturday at 6pm.
Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour point leader Dylan Blenkhorn (Truro, NS) headlines the field of Limited Late Model drivers looking for the checkered flag in the 75-lap main event. Blenkhorn will drive the #41 Dulux Paints Bayers Lake Chevrolet in the Limited Late Model 75 presented by MetalCore and D.R. Scrap Metals. Kenny Mackenzie Jr (Salisbury, NB) is the most recent winner in the division after taking the victory June 10th. Nova Scotia drivers Jordan Veinotte (Porter’s Lake) and Pete Miller (Kennetcook) are in search of their first Petty International Raceway track championship and sit second and third, respectively, after two point paying events.
Rookie contender Logan Power (Riverview, NB) has been impressive thus far in 2017. The former Mister Transmission Mini Stock Most Popular Driver has taken the early lead in the Westwood Estates Street Stock class after the first two races. His lead is just ten points over the driving duo of Clifford and Chuck Mercer (Mount Hebron, NB), with “Hollywood” James Matchett (Miramichi, NB) and Nick Cudmore (Goshen, NB) one and three points behind the Mercer team, respectively. Mike Duskey (Albany, PE) rebounded to take the feature victory on June 10th and will look to better his fifth place position in the standings.
Tim Webster (Beaver Bank, NS) is in championship form early in the Mister Transmission Mini Stock season. Webster has taken the first two wins on the 2017 season in impressive fashion and has a nine point advantage on Mike Edwards (Penobsquis, NB) in the standings. Mike Weagle (Salisbury, NB) is just ten points out of the top spot and will look to upend Webster’s hot streak on Saturday night. The Mister Transmission Mini Stock division has seen the highest car count of any class at the track this year with 21 drivers starting at least one of the first two races on the year.
The Leisure Days RV Bandolero division returns for the first time since May 28th. Nathan Blackburn (Timberlea, NS) rolled into victory lane during the Canadian National Autism Foundation’s KidsRace presented by Acura of Moncton and will lead the division into battle on Saturday. Former Canadian champions Josh Langille (Coldbrook, NS) and Sam Rogers (Lower Onslow, NS) have Blackburn in their crosshairs in the point standings after one event.
Paul Costain and Joe Hoyt (Waasis, NB) are co-point leaders in the Petty Raceway Modified Division. Costain was the feature winner when the open wheel drivers last hit the track on May 28th. Races at Petty International Raceway in 2017 count towards a track championship and the Atlantic Modified Tour point title.
While there is no pre-registration required for the MetalCore/D.R. Scrap Metals Demolition Derby competitors, entries that have already signaled intentions to compete in the night include Mackenzie Jr and Derby circuit competitor Terry Nelson (Truro, NS). Nelson has competed in over 90 demolition derby events in his career and is looking forward to his second appearance at Petty International Raceway. A Back Up Race, which will see drivers race around the oval in reverse, and a Barrel Race, which will test Demolition competitors with tight turns, will warm up drivers for their final winner-take-all event to close the evening.
Please note, the Women on Wheels division has been added to the Friday, July 21st event as a part of Petty International Raceway’s first double header weekend of the season. The weekend will culminate with the Irving Oil Blending & Packaging 150 for the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour.
Grandstand admission prices for Saturday’s events are $20 for adults and $10 for youth aged eight to 18, while children seven years of age and under will be admitted free. Pit admission is $25 and is restricted to those 16 years of age and older. Pit gates for competitors open at 2pm, grandstand gates open for spectators at 4pm with racing getting underway at 6pm.
