Scotia Tire 50 Marks Halfway Point of Maritime League of Legends Season

Ryan Mackintosh to make Maritime return Saturday

(Sackville, NB; August 9th, 2017) - The Maritime League of Legends Tour continues a busy month of August with their second of five straight events. The Scotia Tire 50 at Scotia Speedworld on Saturday, August 12th is the fifth of nine events on the 2017 season and is the second of three visits to the Halifax area oval. The Scotia Tire 50 is a part of the 18th Annual Atlantic Cat 250 weekend with post time scheduled for 5pm on Saturday.

Waylon Farrell (Conception Bay South, NL) holds the point lead after the Island Coastal Services and Steve’s Snow Removal 50. Farrell was caught up in a tangle on the initial restart at Oyster Bed Speedway last Saturday and had to drive back to the front during the 50-lap distance. His sixth place finish in the race still has him in control of the standings heading back to Scotia Speedworld.

Justin MacNeill (Bedford, NS) was the biggest mover after the fourth round of the series last weekend on Prince Edward Island. A second place finish to Shelby Baker (Fall River, NS) has the former champion of the series sitting just 19 points out of the championship lead. Learning a new race car hasn’t been able to stop the Pro division driver this season and will look to get back to victory lane at Scotia Speedworld this Saturday in the Scotia Tire 50.

The Meehan siblings find themselves tied in the standings after four races on the Maritime League of Legends Tour in 2017. Emily Meehan pulled herself even with her brother Adam with a seventh place finish last weekend compared to Adam’s 15th place outing at Oyster Bed Speedway. Adam was the winner of the Atlantic Tiltload 50 at Scotia Speedworld in May while his sister was fifth in the first race of the year. Thirty four points is the difference between the Rawdon duo and the point leader Farrell.

The Scotia Tire 50 will mark the Maritime return of Ryan Mackintosh. Mackintosh, originally from Amherst, Nova Scotia, has made a name for himself in the Legend car ranks, winning the 2013 INEX International Asphalt Semi Pro Championship. Mackintosh’s racing career began in his back yard, cutting his teeth racing with the AMKA and CKRA kart clubs before making the jump to Bandolero competition at Scotia Speedworld. His last appearance in the Maritimes was in June 2014 when he made his debut on the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour at Petty International Raceway.

Mackintosh will drive the #88 Legend for the Brycon Racing team. While Nicholas Naugle (Dartmouth, NS) will be focusing on the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour Atlantic Cat 250, the team has previously been to victory lane in the Legend portion of the show. Naugle is a former winner of the Scotia Tire 50, winning the race in 2014.

Cory Hall is chasing the same glory Mackintosh accomplished back in 2013. The Jolicure, New Brunswick driver has recorded 16 of the 18 100-point wins he needs to achieve, apart from a regional qualifier and his finish at Asphalt Nationals in Las Vegas, Nevada in October in hopes to become the second Canadian driver in history to win the International title. A wreck during the Island Coastal Services and Steve’s Snow Removal 50 has moved his back to fifth in points, 38 points out of the Maritime League of Legends Tour point lead and three points up on fellow New Brunswicker Darren Sherwood (Cambridge Narrows). Hall is the defending Scotia Tire 50 champion at Scotia Speedworld.

The Maritime League of Legends Tour has seen an average car count of 24 cars per event so far in 2017, with 14 teams taking part in all four races thus far. The first stop at Scotia Speedworld for the Tour back in May saw 23 cars take the green flag in the Atlantic Tiltload 50.

Tickets for the Scotia Tire 50 can be purchased at the gates of Scotia Speedworld on race day. For facility information, including ticket prices, camping and addition Atlantic Cat 250 weekend information, please log onto ScotiaSpeedworld.ca.
