My Third Take: This week with HSC Powersports
by Thayne ... May 12, 2009, 11:37:33 PM
Well the rain struck Barrie Speedway for the first time this year, but has been an unwanted visitor to tracks all over Ontario to start the season. Last week I left off with us heading off to get the car scaled, so that is where we will begin this weeks synopsis.

We loaded up the trailer and went and met the car at the shop where we scaled the car and went over front end geometry. Shockingly, after a little work the car was pretty close out of the box. We had to do a little ride height work, and using the load bolts we were able to get out needed weight percentages.

By about 1 a.m. we were done and loading up the car to bring it back home. The next day we knew would be a really late one as there was a boa load of small things to do to the car in order to have it ready for the track Saturday morning. We also had the Mustang we needed to get ready as well.

Thursday night we saw the clock turn past 2 a.m. but were able to get most of the small stuff done. Attention was given at the front end of the car with some alterations as well as re-installing the shocks, sway bar and putting the window in.

The mustang also had the motor installed Thursday night and was running flawlessly. It was a good night, all that was left were new plugs, wires, distributor parts, manifold gaskets, intake gasket and to finish the windshield on the Thunder car Friday night. The mustang just needed a quick coat of paint.

Well the coat of paint didnt go as quickly and the Thunder car had a few hiccups, needless to say it was late.when I locked up the shop it was nearly 4 a.m. and I had to be up at 9 to get the cars ready and loaded for the track.

When I awoke the skys were bleeding, and it was apparent that we werent going to get the car shaken downso we put them back in the shop and played with lead for the day and found another percentage of rear weight...which never hurts!

Sunday we took the day off and went and watched my brother annihilate the Gloucester Gryphons in on e of the better lacrosse games I have seen I awhile and then took mom out for dinner.

This week has been spent doing other small things that arent necessarily needed to run the car, but that needed to be done. Tonight should be an easy night of bolt checking both cars and then off to the track tomorrow.

The car are all lettered up and we are ready to hit the track! See yah Wednesday night or Saturday afternoon. Unfortunately the Mustang will have to wait three weeks as Travis has lacrosse the first two weekends and has to miss them. The full team will be in action May 30th!

here is the thunder car with the vinyl on!

Thayner,  that car looks simply awsome, great job and a nice nose piece for a thunder car.

My Second Take: This week with HSC Powersports

This week has been a chill week thus far. Last Friday we put the motor back together and fired her up. We are not done with the finishing touches on the motor, like final setting of the timing and putting the new plugs and wires on, but it sounds great already! On Sunday we took the car to the guys house who is setting the car up and he has been going on it since then. Because the Thunder Car had been gone for a few days we got the mustang out and pulled the motor.

We had oil pressure issues at Fall Colours but because of the whole being there already deal, we decided to run it anyways. 50 laps at 8000RPM with 15 pounds of oil pressure and guess what? It just needed new bottom end crank bearings. Royal Purple, I feel, saved the motor and recommend it to all of you racing out there. It is more expensive, but in the end saved us a crank and who knows what else!

That motor is all put together and was finished last night. It will be in Thursday night hopefully and, if all goes well both cars will be at practice.

Tonight I am heading to meet my car and put it on the scales and get it all scaled. The goal is to have that done tonight and bring it home with us, because the next few nights are expected to be late ones to get the small stuff done in time for practice.

Saturday has been a long time coming since we started in January, but it is also a little nerve-wracking as well. Hopefully I can do well and we can get the car close Saturday to where minor stuff is done to get it just right on race day.

Next week I will actually be saying something after I have been on the track! 'Bout time!

This blog will feature a little background on what has transpired thus far to get the car ready to hit the track next weekend for the first time. In the blogs following this we will mainly concentrate on the past weeks on the track exploits as well as what is going on at the shop.

Well the past few weeks have toned down a bit since the painting of the new 2009 Thunder car that we are preparing for the upcoming race season at Barrie Speedway. We have been kind of taking a mini-break working only until 8:30 or 9:00, which is a nice break from all the 1:00 a.m., nights the previous month and a half! The car has come a long way this winter. We purchased it in January and immediately began disassembly. We took the suspension, body and everything off the car, it only had approximately 7 races on it after being built new the year before, but there were certain things we wanted to change.

After remounting the new body and getting the wiring and suspension all sorted out and done, we finished the gauges off and put the windows in. A week and a half ago we put the paint on the car and thanks to my uncle Garnett, it came out looking great! This past week we have done some motor stuff and should have that back tomorrow, as well as started the setup process.

The car is heading out this weekend to get the setup finished and we hope to have it scaled and ready for practice by Thursday night!

As far as the mustang mini stock is concerned, it is still sitting in the same place it was put at the end of last year. It will be pulled out Sunday and should only need minor work. I might even try my hand at painting on that car, just to see if I have learned anything watching my uncle these past 4 years!

Hopefully next week I will be saying how ready we are for practice and not scrambling at the last minute to get ready!

I would like to personally thank the following companies for coming on board in the past few weeks and helping us get this car to where it is: Securequip Systems (, Lojack (, Elmvale Carquest, Hillsdale Service Centre. Without their help we would not be racing this season!

I almost forgot! Last weekend my aunt came over with a present for my brother and I for the trailer, it is pictured below!

How cool is that!?!!?
