Demar Aggregates Trucks

The evening hailed the return of Darrell Porter in the 8 truck, and the 55 of Gary Adriaensen (sp?) I don't know much aboutt he 55, but Porter was one of the more dominant competitors in the trucks up until 2 years ago when he went into semi-retirement. (I understood he'd taken the year off for a work assignment overseas, but don't hold me to it.) Regardless, it was great to see the blue 8 speeding around the track once again.

Heat 1
11-Kirchner jumps out to an early lead, while 33-McDonald wows the crowd trying to make his way up to the front. We know the trucks commonly go 3 wide at a lot of points on the track, but there was a moment where 4-Thompson, 7-Clark, 97-McDonald Jr, and the 33 truck were 4 wide going into turn 3. 33 backed it out however and narrowly avoided causing a really big mess. Kirchner managed to hold onto 1st for a good portion of the race until being passed by 33 in the closing laps.
1st to 33-McDonald, 2nd to 75-Dupuis, 3rd to 7-Clark

Heat 2
Sees the ladies starting on the front row again, and 99-Koricina takes the early lead followed by 16-Hosang. The two manage to open up a lead while 56-Showler and 00-Johns begin to reel them in. Hosang gets by Koricina, and at one point it looked like Koricina was going to lose it.  Showler manages to catch and overtake Koricina, but Hosang goes on to claim her first ever checkered flag.
1. 16-Hosang  2. 56-Showler  3. 99-Koricina

In the victory interview, Hosang dedicated the win to Delaware fan Doug Cowx who passed away recently.

Feature
Its a wild start for the trucks tonight, starting off with a drag race between 11-Kirchner and 4-Thompson. On lap 2 coming out of 4, Kirchner is side by side with McDonald Jr and appears to be trying to get low to get down pit road, taking another truck with him. In the ensuing melee, Showler ends up going nose-first into the pitwall tire. Amazingly, there's no caution and Showler gets moving under his own power.

It doesn't take long before the 33 truck is out in front, and aon the next alp, 88-Fothergill is spun and looping around in turn 2. Caution flies this time.

At the restart, the order is 33-McDonald, 7-Clark, 75-Dupuis, 99-Koricina and 82-Demelo. Great battle furthr back in the field as 00-Johns and 77-Zagarody are doing some serious beatin and bangin, literally going to to war with one another.

Now Fothergill is busting his way up through the field, and up front the 33 leads, but can't get any kind of distance between him and 2nd place. By the 1/2 way, the top 3, McDonald, Clark and Dupuis have formed a lead pack and are beginning to escape. Now Dupuis is putting some pressure on Clark and eventually makes the pass for 2nd, while Demelo has made his way up to make the lead pack into a foursome.

In the closing laps, Zagarody and Johns are still at it, and now Johns' front bumper is hanging by barely a thread. Demelo is past Clark and going to work on Dupuis for 2nd.

At the checkers its 1. 33-McDonald  2. 75-Dupuis  3. 82-Demelo  4. 7-Clark  and 5. 99-Koricina...with a more than honorable 6th place mention for 8-Porter.

Powerade Modifieds

Heat 1
The first heat was marked by a mishap at the halfway point when 19-Scott and 38-Hendricks got hooked together, sending Scott backwards into the inside front wall with some serious damage. On a brighter note, 57-Brooks looked a little spiffed up tonight with what appeared to be some new (or freshly painted) side panels, and sporting a little bit of red trim. It looked good!
1st to 70-Saunders, 2nd to 57-Brooks, 3rd to 24-Richmond

Heat 2

39-McCullough takes the lead early. He was challenged near the end by 88-Shipway, but Shippy dove low coming out of 4 and looped it on the frontstretch.
1st to 39-McCullough, 2nd to 1-Newman, 3rd to 3-Cox

Feature
The Mod feature was marred early by an accident on the backstretch that literally claimed almost half of the field. We start with 24-Richmond on the pole with 70-Saunders alongside, then Brooks and McCullough. Backstretch on the 1st lap, McCullough and Saunders get together. Saunders bounces off the backstretch wall and back into McCullough, and then they end up collecting 1-Newman and Shippy too. Some damage on everyone except Shipway who collects it and drives away. So without even doing a full lap, we're down to 6 cars.

Lap 2 - On the restart (there's only 6 cars now) , Brooks takes the point and Shipway jumps into 2nd. Shppy gets past Brooks and now the order is Shipway, Brooks, Limon and Cox. Brooks has a failure of some type and the 57 dies on the backstretch, leaving 5 cars on the speedway, with Shipway well in front.  

The rest of the race is watching Jamie Cox trying to close in on Shipway from a half straight back. Every lap Cox nibbles away at Shipway's lead and by lap 20 he's only 2 car lengths away. Last lap Cox goes high to try and get around, but its Shipway's night. The top 5 are also the only 5.
1st to 88-Shipway, 2nd to 3-Cox, 3rd to 54-Limon, 4th to 24-Richmond, 5th to 38-Hendricks

APC Late Model - JBM Autoleasing 50 Lapper
Fast time for the evening was set by the Blue 02 of Mark Watson with a time of 18.881

After the inversion, the race starts with 56-Pyle (visitor from Chicago) on the pole with 15-Matthews alongside, then 28-Robblee, 10-Kennedy, 4-Urlin, 22-Ramsay, 52-Sheridan and 02-Watson. Pyle grabs the lead with Robblee hot on his heels, but on lap 2, Kennedy gets helped around in turn 2 to bring out the first caution.

Kennedy wastes no time however, and on the restart begins to power thru the back half of the field. Up front, Pyle is still the leader, but is being challenged by Robblee. The order is Pyle, Robblee, Matthews, then a side by side duel between Sheridan and Urlin. Urlin gets into Matthews, enough to cause both to slow and allow Sheridan to slip by into 3rd.  Up front, the leaders are running cleanly side by side, but then there's a bobble and Pyle's out of line just enough to allow 3rd place runner Sheridan up into second. Robblee and Sheridan begin to distance themselves from the rest of the field, with Pyle staying strong in 3rd place.

There's an accident at lap 17, when 69-Rawlings gets pointed the wrong way on the backstretch and slides into the inside retaining wall casuing some bad damage. At the restart going into turn 1, Matthews gets into Urlin, spinning only himself and causing the whole field to scatter to avoid. It ends up collecting 2-Stewart in the process.

At the end of the first 25 lap leg, its Robblee, Sheridan, Pyle, Urlin and Watson.

Now at the restart, Sheridan is putting some heavy pressure on Robblee, while Watson and Urlin are drag racing for 4th. In the back half of the field, Matthews gets into 8-Jacobs in turn 3, spinning him and collecting 14-Emery in the process to bring out another caution. Its at this point we see Vanderwyst in the pits yet again. Something appears to be wrong with the 7 car, as he's in and out of the pits and never really a factor over the evening. (Someone said they may have been out just testing...but I can't say)

And so it goes with Sheridan dogging Robblee but not seeming to have the car to get past him. Kennedy's made his way back up to 7th, when another caution flies at lap 31 when 3-Rijnen goes around in turn 2.

Now at the restart, Watson manages to make a great pass on Urlin and Pyle to take 3rd place. Urlin is pushing Pyle hard and eventually uses the bumper to get Pyle around in turn 3 and collecting 27-Box as well. I believe at this point Urlin got either black flagged or got called an accident car because he was at the back when they restarted.

After the green, the top 4, Robblee, Sheridan, Watson and Kennedy are all running nose to tail and opening some space, but 22-Ramsay breaks out and gets himself onto the tail of the lead pack.

In the closing laps, Robblee and Sheridan begin to run ahead slightly. Sheridan's pushing Robblee a little bit, but not that hard. It almost looked like Sheridan was content with second.

Final order  1st to Robblee, 2nd to Sheridan, 3rd to Watson, 4th to Kennedy, 5th to Ramsay.
Rounding out the top 10 was 20-Lindsay, 82-Shaw, 37-Elliott, 32-Matt Robblee, 3- Rijnen

NOTES:
-Clarke, Spicer and Wiersma were all still AWOL, as was 55-Rankin, 38-Hooker and 77-Verhoeven. Hooker and Verhoeven raced at Sauble next night, so that might explain their absece, but I don't know what's up with those other guys.
-Flamboro car 82-Shaw was in attendance and wasn't looking too shabby tonight. Likewise for David Elliott. Nice run for those 2 guys.

Powder Puff Madness

Didn't get a winner, but here's how they ended up doing it: 8 cars participated. They ran 2 races, King of the Hill style, except it was 4 cars for 2 laps, instead of 2 cars for one lap. They did these 2 "heats", then put all 8 street vehicles on the track for 5 laps from a standing start.

I have to admit, after the converstions we had here on the boards about the need for roll cages in the chaos cars, I was a little flummoxed at the decision to put 8 plain-jane street cars on the speedway at the same time, with novice drivers and no obstacles to slow them down. I'm still kind of gettin' over it actually. Thankfully nothing bad happened.

A normal King of the Hill race followed, and it looked like they had a pretty full contingent. We didn't stay for the whole thing as I had my youngest with me. We did see a couple of races, and the only thing I can really report is that Grocery-Getter was eliminated in a 1st round upset. Not sure who the other guy was, but it might have been Sharpie the flagman - that's what heard someone in the stands say anyway.

Oh, and Richmond Row had a celebration of sorts when a certain crazy lady won the 50-50 draw.

(Now she can afford to buy Kramer, paint Crazylady on the side, and enter the next Chaos Race!)

DELAWARE SPEEDWAY: She won it for the late Doug Cowx

DELAWARE -- Kathleen Hosang will enter her fourth year of business studies at Laurier University in September.

"I want to get rich," the 21-year-old from St. Joseph said last night when asked what she wants to do when she graduates. "I don't have a plan on how to get there. I just know where I want to end up."

It's not that way in her racing career. She's had that mapped out since starting out in Delaware Speedway's junior division at age 14.

Last night, in her fourth year in the truck division, she finally held a checkered flag, winning the second heat race.

"That was awesome. It was a long time coming," she said of her 10-lap victory.

She's had numerous seconds and thirds, but the checkers had remained agonizingly elusive.

And nothing was more agonizing than two weeks ago when she led the first 16 laps of the 25-lap feature, then began to encounter lapped traffic.

She ended up finishing fourth.

"That was tough," she said as she appeared to be dominating the 20-truck field. "I'm not going to think about moving up from this entry-level division because I feel I haven't left my mark. And you don't do that until you win some features."

Hosang had some company -- Sarah Coton and Jo-Ann Walzack -- that first year in trucks, but now there's only Hosang and Delaware rookie Michelle Koricina of Ailsa Craig, who won a heat race last week.

"The guys don't make any big deal that we're women," Hosang said. "There were some comments my first year but I haven't heard any since then."

It's interesting that Hosang doesn't have any role models in racing.

"I honestly don't even follow professional racing on TV. It sounds funny, but I find it boring to watch. My dad (Mike, a former racer) spends days in front of the TV, but I can't sit down and watch.

"It's ironic, I know, but I'd rather see live racing. I've been to a couple NASCAR races and when I'm not racing and there's a big event here, I'll come down and watch. I find that exciting."

Hosang has always been competitive and this year sits in the middle of the pack in the points chase.

She has her fans and on June 12 her dad received a phone call from long-time Delaware supporter Doug Cowx of Mt. Brydges.

"He said he wanted to help out financially to get to victory lane," Mike Hosang said, pointing to Cowx's name on the rear spoiler of her daughter's 1998 GM Silverado. "I talked to Doug at 11 o'clock that night and he died of a heart attack the next morning after a swim. But his family still came through afterward and tonight was for Doug."

Hosang finished 12th in the truck feature last night, won by Sid McDonald of London.

Paul Shipway of Ailsa Craig won the 25-lap modified feature.

Steve Robblee captured both 25-lap late model features.

 Grin I was so happy for Kathleen! She is a living doll and has been so sweet. Juice Box and her have raced together many times in the Jr. Latemodels. Her dad is just a great guy as well. Congrats Kathleen you deserved the win sweet heart Grin

You know, up until last night I didn't realize that she'd never won even a heat race. She usually looks so stout behind the wheel that you'd figure her to be a past race winner. She's looking so good this year that if the chips fall the right way, she'll bag a feature before the season is over.

 Roll Eyes What is up Matthews in the 15 LM? What weapon!! Dumping anybody in his way. I"ll let you folks in on a little secret dumping the last place car is not racing! He gets a penalty of his display of driving prowess and being two laps down got out the chrome horn again. If that was my driver he'd a got a slap up side the head. Dumping people leads to pay back Angry Putting this dude in a car was like giving a baby a loaded hand gun. Sorry folks but driving like this has lead too the issues we have in LM ranks. Maybe he might wanna try Enduro where those guy's can teach him how to drive.
Way too go Mark(#8) Grin for not tearing up the car when your struggling to get a handle on things and some hero comes up and dumps you umm just cause he can and he needs a story to tell his friends.
If I seem a little harsh I apologize but his kind of driving gets my blood boiling... This ain't hockey!!!!

But yes, Mr Matthews has certainly been "enthusiastic" in the last few weeks.

As was Mr. Urlin at one point, when he gave 56-Pyle his "welcome to Delaware" mesaage" in the closing laps.

Kennedy also got a little rambunctious as well. (Jesse tried to shoot up the middle on a restart...almost got messy.)

Its funny, for all the cautions we took in the Partsource 142, I actually thought last night was a rougher race.

And another thing...what's up with Sheridan?

Is he wussing out in his old age or does he really not have enough to get around Robblee? If I didn't know better, I'd say it looked like he was guarding Robblee's back rather than trying to beat him.

NOTES:
-Vanderwyst was there but not a factor. He was having difficulty all night and looked like he might not have been running on all 8.

Heard a rumor lastnight , that Pistol Pete  had a "Strait Rail Car" out there lastnight just testing it out. That was the reason he was not a factor in the race, Delaware would not let him let it loose out there!!

The 15 the 4 take your pick there are alot more then just them.
The total disrespect for there and others equipment blows me away.
We have some of the best drivers and crews around and for some reason a large portion of them drive life a pissed off teenager.

I personally don't think the majority of LM drivers are rough at Delaware. I do think the #15, Matthews gets a bad rap. He sure did Friday night. He was taken out by the same driver who took #56 Pyle out.  There are a few of the "upper echelon" of LM drivers that if they can't get around you in 2 laps will take you out.  Hopefully this will come to an end shortly.  What we have at Delaware this year is amazing.  I don't know of any other weekly track that had its top divison expand by almost double on a regaular basis.  Let's all try not to screw this up.  This is great.
By the way, did anybody realize the #56 Robby Pyle car was the Howe Enterprises "house car" with Chas Howe  (son of Ed Howe and who now runs Howe Enterprises) was in the pits as crewchief and spotter). I'm not sure why they showed up but I hope they come back. Reminded me of days when Ed Howe would show up at Delaware unexpectedly.

On a brighter note, 57-Brooks looked a little spiffed up tonight with what appeared to be some new (or freshly painted) side panels, and sporting a little bit of red trim. It looked good!
1st to 70-Saunders, 2nd to 57-Brooks, 3rd to 24-Richmond

Heat 2

39-McCullough takes the lead early. He was challenged near the end by 88-Shipway, but Shippy dove low coming out of 4 and looped it on the frontstretch.
1st to 39-McCullough, 2nd to 1-Newman, 3rd to 3-Cox

Feature
The Mod feature was marred early by an accident on the backstretch that literally claimed almost half of the field. We start with 24-Richmond on the pole with 70-Saunders alongside, then Brooks and McCullough. Backstretch on the 1st lap, McCullough and Saunders get together. Saunders bounces off the backstretch wall and back into McCullough, and then they end up collecting 1-Newman and Shippy too. Some damage on everyone except Shipway who collects it and drives away. So without even doing a full lap, we're down to 6 cars.

Lap 2 - On the restart (there's only 6 cars now) , Brooks takes the point and Shipway jumps into 2nd. Shppy gets past Brooks and now the order is Shipway, Brooks, Limon and Cox. Brooks has a failure of some type and the 57 dies on the backstretch, leaving 5 cars on the speedway, with Shipway well in front. 

The rest of the race is watching Jamie Cox trying to close in on Shipway from a half straight back. Every lap Cox nibbles away at Shipway's lead and by lap 20 he's only 2 car lengths away. Last lap Cox goes high to try and get around, but its Shipway's night. The top 5 are also the only 5.
1st to 88-Shipway, 2nd to 3-Cox, 3rd to 54-Limon, 4th to 24-Richmond, 5th to 38-Hendricks

APC Late Model - JBM Autoleasing 50 Lapper
Fast time for the evening was set by the Blue 02 of Mark Watson with a time of 18.881

After the inversion, the race starts with 56-Pyle (visitor from Chicago) on the pole with 15-Matthews alongside, then 28-Robblee, 10-Kennedy, 4-Urlin, 22-Ramsay, 52-Sheridan and 02-Watson. Pyle grabs the lead with Robblee hot on his heels, but on lap 2, Kennedy gets helped around in turn 2 to bring out the first caution.

Kennedy wastes no time however, and on the restart begins to power thru the back half of the field. Up front, Pyle is still the leader, but is being challenged by Robblee. The order is Pyle, Robblee, Matthews, then a side by side duel between Sheridan and Urlin. Urlin gets into Matthews, enough to cause both to slow and allow Sheridan to slip by into 3rd.  Up front, the leaders are running cleanly side by side, but then there's a bobble and Pyle's out of line just enough to allow 3rd place runner Sheridan up into second. Robblee and Sheridan begin to distance themselves from the rest of the field, with Pyle staying strong in 3rd place.

There's an accident at lap 17, when 69-Rawlings gets pointed the wrong way on the backstretch and slides into the inside retaining wall casuing some bad damage. At the restart going into turn 1, Matthews gets into Urlin, spinning only himself and causing the whole field to scatter to avoid. It ends up collecting 2-Stewart in the process.

At the end of the first 25 lap leg, its Robblee, Sheridan, Pyle, Urlin and Watson.

Now at the restart, Sheridan is putting some heavy pressure on Robblee, while Watson and Urlin are drag racing for 4th. In the back half of the field, Matthews gets into 8-Jacobs in turn 3, spinning him and collecting 14-Emery in the process to bring out another caution. Its at this point we see Vanderwyst in the pits yet again. Something appears to be wrong with the 7 car, as he's in and out of the pits and never really a factor over the evening. (Someone said they may have been out just testing...but I can't say)

And so it goes with Sheridan dogging Robblee but not seeming to have the car to get past him. Kennedy's made his way back up to 7th, when another caution flies at lap 31 when 3-Rijnen goes around in turn 2.

Now at the restart, Watson manages to make a great pass on Urlin and Pyle to take 3rd place. Urlin is pushing Pyle hard and eventually uses the bumper to get Pyle around in turn 3 and collecting 27-Box as well. I believe at this point Urlin got either black flagged or got called an accident car because he was at the back when they restarted.

After the green, the top 4, Robblee, Sheridan, Watson and Kennedy are all running nose to tail and opening some space, but 22-Ramsay breaks out and gets himself onto the tail of the lead pack.

In the closing laps, Robblee and Sheridan begin to run ahead slightly. Sheridan's pushing Robblee a little bit, but not that hard. It almost looked like Sheridan was content with second.

Final order  1st to Robblee, 2nd to Sheridan, 3rd to Watson, 4th to Kennedy, 5th to Ramsay.
Rounding out the top 10 was 20-Lindsay, 82-Shaw, 37-Elliott, 32-Matt Robblee, 3- Rijnen

NOTES:
-Clarke, Spicer and Wiersma were all still AWOL, as was 55-Rankin, 38-Hooker and 77-Verhoeven. Hooker and Verhoeven raced at Sauble next night, so that might explain their absece, but I don't know what's up with those other guys.
-Flamboro car 82-Shaw was in attendance and wasn't looking too shabby tonight. Likewise for David Elliott. Nice run for those 2 guys.

Powder Puff Madness

Didn't get a winner, but here's how they ended up doing it: 8 cars participated. They ran 2 races, King of the Hill style, except it was 4 cars for 2 laps, instead of 2 cars for one lap. They did these 2 "heats", then put all 8 street vehicles on the track for 5 laps from a standing start.

I have to admit, after the converstions we had here on the boards about the need for roll cages in the chaos cars, I was a little flummoxed at the decision to put 8 plain-jane street cars on the speedway at the same time, with novice drivers and no obstacles to slow them down. I'm still kind of gettin' over it actually. Thankfully nothing bad happened.

A normal King of the Hill race followed, and it looked like they had a pretty full contingent. We didn't stay for the whole thing as I had my youngest with me. We did see a couple of races, and the only thing I can really report is that Grocery-Getter was eliminated in a 1st round upset. Not sure who the other guy was, but it might have been Sharpie the flagman - that's what heard someone in the stands say anyway.

Oh, and Richmond Row had a celebration of sorts when a certain crazy lady won the 50-50 draw.

(Now she can afford to buy Kramer, paint Crazylady on the side, and enter the next Chaos Race!)

Lets not forget another weapon-likeish driver in #20 Watson.  Outright said from the very outset of the year that he needed to be more aggressive!  (after causing a the big mess on the back straight with Verhoovan and Lindsay)

Routinly takes out the guy ahead and if memory serves me correct, spun the 10 early in the race.. 

Yes, why is Sheriden being so tame.... if the roles were reveresed, I wonder how cleatn it would be

You're kidding right? That thing with Verhoeven and Lindsay was his first Late Model race ever. And I understand the two have agreed that it was a 'stuff happens" kind of accident.

Not saying the guy's never got into anyone, but I've yet to witness one iota of unsportsmanlike behaviour from the 02 car. As far as the Kennedy thing, I didn't see that, and most of you know that Kennedy's my man...so you know I'd be howling about that if I'd seen it.

ANd actually, yes I'm a little confoozled by Sheridan. Robblee would be all over him. Maybe Sheridan only uses the bumper if you're driving the 10 car. Of course, maybe he's born again...cuz that little feud with Kennedy was a couple years ago.

you have to be kidding me, marks an overly aggessive driver, if your in the way alittle expect the horn!   could be that 6 or 7 RED BULLS a night is a little much.

Watsy has started no better than 8th and finished no worse than 5th mostly top 3 as of late. He has made almost all his passes clean and on the outside without touching a sole. A couple weeks ago he had plenty of opportunity to turn Robblee, but he didnt and brought it home in second. Last week in the 10 car deal, Jesse enters 3 on the outside with Marks nose under him, in the middle of 3 and 4 he decides he wants the bottom. Unfortunately Marks already there. What are you going to do? That first race incident you speak of was purely hard racing talk to any involved I'm sure they will agree. I have and they do. If you want to label someone a weapon out there there's lots to choose from but the 02 isnt one of them. Again JMO and your entitled to yours. Cheers
