What's going to happen at the Speedway if they close the slots at Kawartha; was a big piece in newspaper on Thursday, to be Province wide by March 31 2013?

There is an article and where to get a petition on this link.
I do not think the Kawartha Slots are on the list unless there has been a change made. If Kawartha were on the list it would definately diminish the entire property and income ... jobs ect. There will be jobs lost where the slots definately close, indirectly when jobs are lost, it's also a hit on stockcar racing.

OK I read the first post and no where did the poster say the track is closing. The poster was asking a question

What's going to happen at the Speedway if they close the slots at Kawartha?

I don't see where the rumor plays in to it.

Please try and get a long as I don't want this to get out of hand.

Thanks

Sandra, why do you year in and year out continue to spread negative comments and rumors? Maybe you should read these articles with a better sense of comprehension and use a bit of insight and common sense. OLG has anounced that slots in Fort Erie, Windsor and Sarnia were closing by the end of the month. These are slots highly dependant on border crossings and with the high dollar recently they are no longer turning a profit. Nowhere have I seen, read or heard any mention of Kawartha so why start these track closing rumors? Do you ever have a positive thing to say about anything or anyone?
............................................................................................
I have no idea who you are and for your info it's in the paper that it "MAY" happen, I didn't say it was !
And FYI I do have good things to say & I'm not spreading rumors.
Maybe you should read the newspapers.

Paul Godfrey, head of OLG, announced recently that OLG was ending it's direct participation/operation in/of the racetrack slots program as well the previously announced casino closings. This hard on the heels of Mr. Duncan, Ontario finance minister, announcing that the Province is looking closely (McGuinty speak for "we are going to do it") at ending the revenue sharing program with the track slots that's been in place since 1995 and led to the establishment of the Kawartha slots and ultimately, if not directly, the development of the speedway. A PR campaign has been launched in response to this decision as it's going to have an enormous impact on most of Ontario outside of the major cities. And it's not that the government wants out of the gambling business. Not at all. They intend to build a "super casino" somewhere in Toronto. I believe they may be looking at private operators running all slot sites, provided they can be attracted to do so. Not a sure thing by any means. Closure of track slots is a real possibility and what fallout that produces is cause for concern on many levels, including the speedway in this case.

what is so stupid is that these places are making money, not losing...they are suppyling jobs in areas where jobs are needed...last pole i read most people dont want a casino in toronto and think the closings are idiotic...i'm not into gambling myself but what ive read is that millions of dollars could be made in internet gambling if they could shut down the overseas gambling sites and kept the $$$ here...but as usual the government wont listen...
