The 2012 season has not started off the way April Wilson had wanted to, as she did not qualify for the first two races of the season. A stellar field of cars at Fulton earlier this month, and again on Saturday night at Can Am has left Wilson on the outside looking in, but the setback leaves Wilson anxious for the next race, so she move on from the early season misfortunes.
35 Sprint Cars were on hand at Can Am this past Saturday night, and by luck of the draw, Wilson started her heat race from the front row. On the first lap of the race, the car jumped the birm on the outside of turn three, sending her to the back of the pack for the restart. It was a disappointing start to the night, as Wilson had to relinquish her track position, and was unable to make up enough spots to qualify. In the B-Main last chance qualifier, Wilson started from 12th, but unable to make it through the field to secure one of the four transfer spots, she finished just one spot out.
“It was disappointing that we did not make it in to the A-main, but we had a lot of fun, and we learned a lot”, says Wilson. “With only 20 or so cars starting, it is tough to make it in to these races with such a tough field, but we will continue to work hard, and hope for better results the next race”.
Wilson’s next race will come at the Brighton Speedway on Saturday, May 19th with the Southern Ontario Sprints. Wilson has finished in the top 15 in SOS points the last four seasons, and will be looking to improve on that this year.
