Linc Brown is Ready for Kawartha’s Fan Appreciation Night

By Jim Clarke, Clarke Motorsports Communications

After a mid-season break Friday, July 13th Kawartha Speedway’s NAPA Auto Parts ACT Late Model, Thunder Car and Hasiuk Trailer and Container Rental Mini Stock teams will be back in action Friday, July 20th as the track hosts its annual Fan Appreciation Night.  A 50 lap Mini Stock main event will be the featured attraction.  There will also be an autograph session on the front stretch of the popular Fraserville oval to give fans a chance to meet their favourite drivers.  Linc Brown, who runs the #99 Kawartha Metals/Rousseau Automobile Communications/The Wolf 101.5/Don Butt Auto Body/ Mayhew Graphics/Clarke Motorsports Communications Dodge Charger in the Late Model division says the drivers look forward to the night as much as the fans.

“I’m a firm believer in the value of networking.  Our team does a lot of appearances for our sponsorship partners throughout the season, but it’s impossible to get to talk to everyone,” said Brown.  “Fan Appreciation Night is an ideal time for people to meet the drivers and get a close-up look at the cars.  Some folks stop by to chat after the races, but I’m looking forward to meeting everyone who supports our team and the speedway.”

In his first season of action since 2008, the 47 year-old father of 2 from Colborne, Ontario currently sits 11th in the Late Model point standings.  After a bit of a rough start – that actually saw him miss a feature race – Linc Brown has rebounded nicely with a pair of top 10 finishes, including a hard fought 8th place effort in the 9th annual Summer Sizzler.  Brown feels like the team has turned a corner and he looks forward to some solid runs in the weeks to come.

“The sport may have changed a bit since the last year I ran a full season, but I didn’t forget how to drive and the crew still knows how to set-up the racecar,” said Brown.  “Things on the track seem a bit more aggressive than I remember.  Maybe it has something to do with the 10 race schedule at Kawartha.  Drivers seem determined to run hard and score as many points as they can.  It’s a risk versus reward situation and in some cases that could lead to them taking more chances than they usually would.”

During the break in the schedule, Linc Brown and the team have been busy swapping-out a number of the pieces on the car that were damaged at some point in the Summer Sizzler.  A new nose piece, radiator shroud and front fenders will be on the car when it rolls into action for the next show.  The team hopes to have corrected an ongoing issue with the right-front coil-over shock that was causing some handling issues.  Brown says its just part of the game when it comes to short track racing.

“Things are bound to get bent or broken during the season,” said Brown.  “Racing is a contact sport and we’re all out there chasing a common goal.  Every driver out there wants to enjoy the thrill that comes with picking-up the checkered flag and I’m confident that the #99 team will be in the winner’s circle before the end of the year.  My eyes are still on the prize and to get there, all it will take is a little bit of racing luck.”
