Bryan Mercer Recharges With a Family Vacation; Fan Appreciation Night is Next

By Jim Clarke, Clarke Motorsports Communications

The 10 race schedule at Kawartha Speedway gives drivers a chance to take a break from the action.  The most recent off night – Friday, July 13th – couldn’t have come at a better time for Bryan Mercer.  After a rough and tumble run in the annual Summer Sizzler that left his racecar, spirits...and ribs battered and bruised, Mercer used his time away from the track and his position as a Service Advisor at Quantrill Chevrolet-Buick-GMC-Cadillac to enjoy a vacation with his family.  The 39 year-old from Port Hope, Ontario says getting away for a week was the perfect way to clear his mind.

“Racecar...what racecar,” joked Mercer over the phone.  “I didn’t even think about the car the entire time we were away.  Dad and some of the crew guys came around Saturday morning after the Summer Sizzler and we made a list of what needed to be done, but I didn’t give it another thought until we got back home.  Everything was left in capable hands while I was gone and now its time to get back to work.”

After 3 events on this year’s schedule, Bryan Mercer’s #81 Sine’s Flooring/Durmach Excellence in Tooling Chevrolet Impala is still in the hunt for the Kawartha Speedway NAPA Auto Parts ACT Late Model track championship.  He’s just 18 points out of the top spot in the headline division’s standings.  Even though it’s still early in the season, Mercer says making sure his equipment is properly maintained and ready for anything that could happen on the track keeps his team focused on the big picture.

“Everyone who is associated with this car believes that we can win the title,” said Mercer.  “Consistency is the key.  Even if we’re not winning, the goal is to finish in the top 5 on a regular basis and score as many points as possible in every show.  There’ll be some bumps along the way, but we do everything we can to leave a bad night of racing in the past and look forward to what’s coming next.”

Next on the schedule at the Fraserville, Ontario oval is the annual Fan Appreciation Night, Friday, July 20th.  Just before the main events, cars from all 3 regular classes will be brought onto the front stretch and fans will get a chance to meet their favourite drivers.  Bryan Mercer will be signing his 2012 hero card – prepared by Creative Edge Graphics – and talking to supporters about his team’s performance.

For 2012, Bryan Mercer’s #81 Kawartha Speedway NAPA Auto Parts ACT Late Model is supported by Sine’s Flooring, Durmach Excellence in Tooling, Creative Edge Graphics, Jim’s Pizza, Appleman Carstar Collision, APX Racewear, B & G Equipment, Cressman Tree Maintenance, DenTec, Glass1Autoglass Mobile Service, LVG Auctions, Northumberland News, Quantrill Chevrolet-Buick-GMC-Cadillac, Reflection Glass and Accessories, UAP NAPA - Port Hope and Clarke Motorsports Communications.
