Strong Run Opens Linc Brown’s 2013 Season

By Jim Clarke, Clarke Motorsports Communications/First Draft Media

At the start of a new season of action, racers always have more questions than answers.  All the long hours and time spent working on the car in the shop can never equal the knowledge acquired from turning laps on the track.  Colborne, Ontario’s Linc Brown faced a number of unknowns heading into the new campaign – his first in almost a decade – on the half mile oval at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.

Experienced runners have learned to keep their eyes on the big prize. No matter what other distractions may exist, the racecar needs your 100% focus from the moment you roll through the pit gates until the night’s final checkered flag falls.  The #99 Dodge Charger by McColl Racing Enterprises turned some comfortable laps during the pre-race practice sessions at the CTMP season opener Saturday, May 18th but that didn’t keep the team from searching for a perfect combination to put under the car for the heat of battle.

“I like to run a simulated race during warm-ups,” said the driver.  “Depending on who else is on the track with me at the time, I’ll try to turn some laps at the front of the pack and then drop back a few spots to see how the car feels working its way back through traffic.  The car felt loose off the corners most of the night.  A loose car – where the rear wheels are prone to snap around when the steering wheel is turned – can be fast, but also has a greater tendency to spin-out or hit the wall.  That’s an issue we’ll work on before the next show.”

In the night’s first 10 lap qualifying event, Linc Brown would finish 2nd after starting 3rd.  When the second heat race came to the line, he was 7th and managed a 4th place effort.  The average of the 2 runs – combined with the handicapped draw for starting spots – meant taking the green flag from inside the second row for the 25 lap Late Model feature.

On the initial start, cars in the outside line got a jump on the field and were able to break away from the pack.  An early yellow flag for Dan Kimmerly’s contact with the front stretch wall slowed the pace briefly, but on the restart, last season’s opening night winner Mark Gordon and defending Late Model track champion Kyle Donaldson were locked in an intense battle in the top 2 spots.  While the grandstand watched the torrid fight for the lead, Linc Brown had a front row seat to witness the night’s best racing.

“Mark and Kyle clashed hard lap after lap, but never touched,” said Brown.  “It was a great show to watch and definitely gave the fans their money’s worth.  I was almost worried about getting too close to either of them.  If they came together, I was either going to win the race or get caught-up in the wreck and take the car home in a basket.  Looking back at things now, I’m happy to start the year with our 3rd place finish.”

To enable the team to run competitively for the entire 2013 Canadian Tire Motorsport Park season, Linc Brown Motorsports is looking for additional sponsorship support to compliment this year’s backing from Kawartha Metals, Don Butt Auto Body, Rousseau Automobile Communications, Mayhew Graphics and Clarke Motorsports Communications.  Potential marketing partners can contact the team via e-mail,  Prospective sponsors can enjoy a night at the track and meet driver Linc Brown by sending a message to, with ‘Linc Brown Motorsports’ in the subject line.  To see the full 2013 Saturday night racing schedule, head to or look for Canadian Tire Motorsport Park on Facebook and Twitter.
