Dylan Evoy Continues Late Season Domination With Biggest Win of His Career in 75 Lap Pete Mitchell Memorial DIRTcar Sportsman Series at Mohawk International Raceway

Craig Revelle – Finish Line Web Design – September 14, 2014

After coming off a perfect weekend just two weeks earlier with a weekend sweep at Mohawk Raceway, Brockville Speedway and Cornwall Speedway, Dylan Evoy and the Evoy Racing team returned to action this Saturday night at Mohawk International Raceway for their biggest event of the season.  They hosted the DIRTcar Sportsman Series with a 75 lap, $5000 to win event for the Sportsman, which is the biggest paying Sportsman race in the history of Mohawk International Raceway.

Saturday was a long day, as Mohawk Raceway and DIRTcar officials waited out the weather.  Finally, by 11PM on Saturday night, the track was ready.  The heavy rain made the track real fast, and Evoy blasted to the top of the charts in the time trials as he posted the fastest overall speed amongst the 49 Sportsman teams on hand.  Evoy also went on to record the win in his heat race, making the all important redraw for a top 12 starting position in the 75 lap main event.  Evoy rolled off the starting grid from the sixth position, and used patience in the opening laps, knowing it was going to be a long race.  As the laps counted down, Evoy was searching for the fast line and by lap 45 he had found something on the extreme top side of the track and began to charge forward and take over the second position at lap 49.  Evoy took advantage of a lap 53 restart and powered to the outside once again to take the race lead and would hold the lead over the remaining laps to score the biggest win of his impressive career.

“A big thanks to MIR crew who made racing possible yesterday with all the rain we had , even though we didn't finish racing until 3:30 a.m the track surface was awesome as was the racing”, said Evoy.   “It was pretty special to be able to win the first Pete Mitchell memorial race which meant a lot.  I appreciate all the sponsors, crew, family and fans who have been with us over the years and made this huge win possible. We have lost some great racing friends this year which makes the memorial races mean so much more. Thank you to all the sponsors that came on board for the memorial race and made it special and unique”.

The next race on the schedule for Dylan and the Evoy Racing team will be this Friday night at Brighton Speedway for another round of the Mr. DIRTcar Sportsman Series. After that, they will prepare for the season finale at Brockville Speedway on Saturday, October 18th as part of the 1000 Islands RV DIRTcar Northeast Fall Nationals.

The Evoy Racing team would not be possible without assistance from great companies such as Ogilvie’s Auto & Fleet Service, Plooy’s Plumbing and Heating, 1000 Islands RV Centre, Napa Auto Parts Universal Supply Group, Genesis Racing Shocks, Upper Canada Electrical, RVB Machine Products, Fireball Performance Automatics, True Speed Canada, MIE Autobody and Collision, Thousand Islands Concrete, Linde, Canadian Tire, Wurth, KnowBrockville.com  and NGK Spark Plugs. A special thanks also goes out to ‘Stick’ and ‘Big Block’ for their help and support.
