Maybe I should be asking the people that do come here and have been doing so for Many Many Years. Why don't you post anymore?

Man I'm glad a lot of you are still coming here for your racing news and if you have any suggestions how to make the site better please feel free to tell me as you are the reason CRO has been running for 16 years.

Thanks again for your support.

Times change, things change...

For any forum to survive, you need posts. No posts nothing to respond to, no reason to read. Folks respond to posts, especially controversial ones, they don't start them.

One place where forums shot themselves in the foot, where facebook doesn't is editing what is posted and who posts. Someone's feelings get hurt, they are a bitch so they cry to the admit, the admin is their buddy, that person gets banned. Ignoring the fact that controversy fills the forums, and has made for some of the longest, most read and most visited threads.

Facebook on the other hand has the cry baby block button, which is a huge improvement for all.

Controversy and attention doesn't kill forums, lack of attention does. ;) Hate to say I told ya so, as the end result is sad for everyone to see.

Nothing personal Evan. Most forums were ruled with this logic, which is why most forums, on almost any topic are getting put out of business to facebook.

Facebook is a bunch of shit and once people see what facebook does with their data they will leave. Try downloading your data file from facebook and you will see all the information you shared with facebook without knowing it. How about your phone contacts if you used facebook on your phone. They not only have all the names and phone numbers also all the peoples address information they sell to third party companies.

Got to your facebook settings and you will see Download a copy of your Facebook data. here is a link that explains what they collect.
https://www.facebook.com/help/405183566203254

Facebook also uses your photos for facial recognition which they also share with others. Also forgot to mention this: Your profile picture, name, and personal information could show up as part of a Facebook ... Sites; Jobs · Events · Social Good Summit · Media Summit. That's right facebook can do what they like with your data.

This is from a law office

Under Facebook’s current terms (which can change at anytime), by posting your pictures and videos, you grant Facebook “a non-exclusive, transferable, sub-licensable, royalty-free, worldwide license to use any [IP] content that you post on or in connection with Facebook (“IP License”). This IP License ends when you delete your IP content or your account unless your content has been shared with others, and they have not deleted it.  Beware of the words “transferable, sub-licensable, royalty-free, worldwide license.”  This means that Facebook can license your content to others for free without obtaining any other approval from you!  You should be aware that once your photos or videos are shared on Facebook, it could be impossible to delete them from Facebook, even if you delete the content or cancel your account (the content still remains on Facebook servers and they can keep backups)!  So, although you may be able to withdraw your consent to the use of photos on Facebook, you should also keep in mind that if you share your photos and videos with Facebook applications, those applications may have their own terms and conditions of how they use your creation!  You should read the fine print to make sure you are not agreeing to something that you don’t want to have happen.

Facebook is your friend right?

You also think facebook doesn't have admins? Every user is a admin on facebook and people like complain about one or two on a forum.

A forum is not a place to call everyone names and bash people. Just like a race track is not a place for drivers to try and wreck other drivers for no reason.

Most places have common sense rules like it or not and people like facebook because there can say what they want bully people on there. Facebook will meet its demise in 2017 as people are predicting it will lose about 80% of it's members.

I think I have exposed facebook for what it is. I for one feel much safer on a forum, as I only ask for your username and email address and I would never share your email address with anyone and never have, So everyone one that feels safe keep posting all your stuff on facebook one day it may come back to bite you in the ass.

Want to know more on how facebook is your friend just ask as I just touched on a couple of things in this post.

Gotta stop wearing the tin foil hat cause you are a bit bitter Evan...

If facebook collects personal data which I am sure they do, I feel 2 ways about it. First you were kinda stupid for sharing anything that matters with them in the first place, and second, collect away. Nothing sinister about that, if there was all they would learn is that most people lead really boring lives. So they collect information on you so they can send you an ad about power tools, rather than granny panties from Sears because they know you are a guy and are on the Truck Driver's forum page.

So have at it. I encourage it. Doing so you will so quickly bury yourself in useless information about me, that if I really had something to hid you'd never be able to sort it out from the crap.

Even with the worst that you say, the ability to connect through facebook far outweighs any negatives. There has yet to ever be a system which allow you to connect with others, both current friends and long lost ones like Facebook. That there is its value, that is what give it an audience, once you have the audience's attention they will look to you for everything they need. Bye bye conventional forums.

Where facebook will somewhat fail is when its finally realized that its revenue model is ineffective. Yes it has reach, but how to implement that reach in terms of marketing has yet to be realized at the crazy valuation of the company. Unless they can pull a rabbit from their hat, they will soon be valued at what they are worth and find it difficult to continue to get the resources required to evolve, and maintain the infrastructure required to run their systems. At that time another platform can come in and take their market. What that platform won't be is old school forums. Time move forwards, not back in history.

What you missed out on was evolving Evan. There was room on facebook for groups and the moderators who created them. Take Dave Tink, from your average dude, to guru of racing parts for sale in this area forum. Many examples like that. You just held on to an oldschool forum... Lesson to learn from this if you want to continue, you need to find the next big thing in terms of an internet platform before its the next big thing. That's the cyberworld game. Best of luck.

My forums have seen a lot of social media stuff come and go and I'm still standing not worried about it at all as I can see the people that view and still enjoy the forums so there are not as many posts but we still get people visiting the site on a daily basis as far back as 2003 and I can live with that as all the BS that used to happen on here doesn't happen anymore.

I will keep the forums running a long as people are still enjoying it and I could careless about facebook as people know they still come here for a racing fix and not have to dig though a bunch of groups and people they follow to get all the racing news they need.

You are still coming here all the time Cardriver you are hooked and you won't admit it.

Message boards will never be obsolete, they retain information about specific topics and they are resourceful for information that many people look for... You don't get that from FB or twitter.

This is a quote I found on another message board and I agree with it 100%
