Nine Different Feature Winners At Flamboro Speedway

By Randy Spencer (Flamboro Speedway PR) - A busy August at Bennett Chevrolet Flamboro Speedway came to a close with another Kids Ride Night and appearances by the Canadian Vintage Modifieds and Can Am Midgets. Thanks to all the drivers who participated in Kids Ride Night, it was once again a great success!

Racing got underway with the first Mini Stock feature. Jake Gilbert and Mike Hooper sat on the pole. Gilbert led lap one. Blair Wickett had his sights set on Gilbert and by lap seven he was knocking on his back door and gave him a shot in the rear. A side by side battle for a few laps and by lap nine Wickett made the pass out of four and was the new leader as they raced down the front stretch. Wickett entered the night second in points trailing leader Russ Aiken by 17 points. Another battle as Chad Ditner and Michael Kenny were door to door and bumper to bumper for several laps. As the race continued Aicken got past Gilbert for second and would be glued to Wickett's bumper but was unable to take over the lead and Wickett picked up the checkered flag.

In the first Thunder Car feature Hudson Nagy and Brad Collison led the field to green. Chris Howse and Brad Collison got into each other on lap one and Howse was sent to the rear. Nagy led lap one. Austin Penney had a loose door panel and made contact with another car peeling it back further and he was black flagged to head to the pits to have it repaired. He would return with it taped up. On the restart, Shawn Arnott got on the "loud" pedal first and was the new leader with Nagy back to second. Arnott would lead the way and take the checkered flag, his first win after returning from a two week hiatus. Another Shawn, Chenoweth filled in admirably in his place.

The Lucas Oil Canadian Vintage Modifieds were up next for their first of two twenty five lap features. Amanda Stoner and John Karley were up front for this one and Karley led lap one. Brian Atkinson got by through three and four on lap two to take the lead. The 00 of Ron Easton spun on lap three as a little light rain fell bringing a short delay. On the restart, Atkinson continued to lead. Atkinson, Jason Keen, Steve Trendell and T.J. Marshall were running nose to tail. The veteran Atkinson, who has had some bad luck the last two trips in, had some good luck this time and picked up the feature win.

The Pro Four Modifieds had eight cars signed in Linc Erison and Aaron Turkey on the pole for the first of two twelve lap features. Turkey led the first two laps but Brian Nanticoke took the lead on lap three as the cars made their way out of turn four. He would hold the lead the rest of the way and pick up the checkered flag.

The Lucas Oil Can Am Midgets were next for the two ten lap heats. James Marche and Steve Murdock were on the pole for the first heat. Murdock got out to a quick lead early and built it as the race progressed. He held off the pack and won heat one. The 4 car of Craig Pitchell lost  a tire on the final lap. In heat two, Jeff Blackburn and Ryan Fraser were on the pole. Fraser led lap one. Blackburn made several attempts to get past and finally took the lead on the back stretch with two laps to go and he took the checkered flag.

After a short intermission we got right back to racing. A few rain drops here and there made everyone move a little quicker on the night to make sure we got the action in. In the second Mini Stock feature, Carson Nagy and David Gallinger were on the pole. Gallinger led the first few laps. Russ Aicken would be the new leader by lap three as he got past followed by Chad Ditner. Aicken started to break away from the pack. Ditner would battle with Blair Wickett and Jake Gilbert for second through fourth. Nagy spun bringing a caution and brought the field back to even. Aicken and Wickett went head to head with the two breaking away form the rest of the pack. Aicken was able to hold off Wickett and picked up the second feature win.

The Thunder Cars hit the track for their second feature. Bobby Mercer and Chris Howse led the field to green with Howse leading lap one. He would go high in two on the second lap and that gave Nagy a way through and was the new leader. He began to stretch his lead. As in the first feature, Howse and Brad Collison got into each other bringing out another caution. The race continued and Shawn Arnott gave it a nice effort but he couldn't get past Nagy who picked up the win.

The Canadian Vintage Modifieds hit the track for feature two. Ian McIntyre led lap one. Steve Trendell would take the lead in three and four on lap four and McIntyre would quickly be shuttled back to fifth on the outside. Several cars spun as the track once again became a little slick. Bill Stoner and John Karley spun on the final lap bringing out the yellow and checker finish. Steve Trendell was the winner followed by Jason Keen and Brian Atkinson.

The Pro Four Modifieds were next with Linc Erison and Craig Shaver up front. Shaver led one. Dan Nanticoke was on Shavers back bumper for several laps and on lap six was leader for a short time but Shaver took it back. On lap eleven Nanticoke got a little loose and Aaron Turkey almost took over second but to no avail. As the checkers flew it was Shaver followed by Nanticoke and Turkey.

The final race of the night was the twenty five lap feature for the Can Am Midgets. Jeff Blackburn and Steve Murdock sat on the pole. Blackburn led one and started to build a good lead. Ryan Fraser was in second but veteran Rob Neely got past Fraser heading into three on lap six to take over second. Darren McLennan then battled Fraser and would take third after several laps of wheel to wheel battling. A tight seven car pack was ready to pounce if the top four were to falter but in the end it was Blackburn holding the lead followed by Neely and Darren Dryden.

That brought to a close another exciting night of racing action at Bennett Chevrolet Flamboro Speedway. Please join us next Saturday, September 3rd for our annual Fan Appreciation Night and Corn Roast.
