R&D Performancenter 50 to Crown Upper Clements Parks Maritime League of Legends Champion

(September 14th, 2016 - Dartmouth, NS) - The Upper Clements Parks Maritime League of Legends Tour will see their 2016 champion crowned this Saturday at Scotia Speedworld. The R&D Performancenter 50 is the eighth round on the series and third visit to the 3/10-mile oval located in the shadows of the Halifax Robert Stanfield International Airport. Racing begins at 4pm on September 17th.

The Farrell’s Racing #48 team is on the cusp of their first championship on the mainland. The team based out of Conception Bay South, Newfoundland has had three drivers behind the wheel of their car this season, with Waylon Farrell (Conception Bay South, NL), Alex Pacheco (Kannapolis, NC) and Dylan Blenkhorn (Truro, NS) each driving the car over the first seven races of the year. Pacheco, who won the Farrell’s Excavation 50 at Riverside International Speedway in August, will take the wheel of the car one last time on Saturday in hopes of bringing the team home a championship.

The second place spot in the standings has swapped following the seventh round of the series. With his win in the Atlantic Tiltload 50 at Speedway 660 on September 3rd, Cory Hall (Jolicure, NB) has taken the runner-up spot in the standings, dispatching Craig MacDonald (Waverley, NS) to third overall by three points with just one race to go. MacDonald, who had held down second place for a majority of the season, will look for his first series win at his home track of Scotia Speedworld on Saturday. With his performance at Speedway 660 two weeks ago, MacDonald has officially clinched the Rookie of the Year Award on the series.

The gap between the top two in points sits at 33, meaning Pacheco can clinch the championship for Farrell’s Racing with a top 15 finish on Saturday, regardless where Hall places in the R&D Performancenter 50.

Adam Meehan (Rawdon Gold Mines) sits comfortably in fourth spot in the standings. While he is only 20 points out of Hall for the second spot in the standings, he has a 51 point lead on fifth place driver Justin MacNeill (Bedford). The multiple time series and Canadian champion made the leap into the top five at Speedway 660, passing Emily Meehan (Rawdon Gold Mines) with a fourth place finish in the Atlantic Tiltload 50. Six points sit between MacNeill and Emily Meehan’s #75 car. With post secondary education commitments, Meehan will have Scotia Speedworld Coors Light Truck driver Megan Parrott (Beaver Bank, NS) substituting and making her Legend car debut at the R&D Performancenter 50.

The top ten drivers in the point standings will be honored at the season ending awards gala and a number of those spots have yet to be spoken for with one race remaining. Rookie Shane Lively (Middle Sackville, NS) and Arnie Spinney (Coldbrook, NS) look quite safe for a top ten finish, though with only six points between them heading into Saturday there could be a shift in position before the checkered flag falls. Not far behind the pair is Jeff Cruickshank (Hantsport, NS), though he will have work to do as he sits 15 markers back from Spinney heading into the R&D Performancenter 50.

The tenth spot in the standings sees three drivers tied for the spot. Reigning Canadian Masters champion Paul Goulden (Shelburne, NS) and Danny Harvey (Lantz, NS) own the last three CARSTAR Weekly Racing Series victories at Scotia Speedworld in a Legend car while Will Farrell (Conception Bay South, NL) will look to crack the top ten in his first full touring series season.

A number of Scotia Speedworld drivers will also look to bring home the R&D Performancenter 50, including “The Legend” Cy Harvey (Elmsdale, NS), Harry Breimer Jr. (Stewiacke, NS), Cole Tanner (Shubenacadie, NS), Joey Lawson (Porter’s Lake, NS) and Tylor Hawes (Porter’s Lake, NS). Hawes enters with the hot hand of the quintet with three top five finishes in the last three races at his home track.

Tickets for the R&D Performancenter 50 can be purchased at the gates of Scotia Speedworld on race day. For facility information, including ticket prices, camping and additional Dartmouth Dodge 200 season finale weekend information, please log onto ScotiaSpeedworld.ca.
