Butcher Racing Leads Bumper to Bumper $5K Petty Pro Stock Challenge Heading into River Glade International

(River Glade, NB – August 23rd, 2018) – Among the accomplishments that Butcher Racing has in 2018, the Porter’s Lake, Nova Scotia based team has the lead in the inaugural Bumper to Bumper $5K Petty Pro Stock Challenge (PPSC) presented by Lonnie Sommerville Racing and Shur-Fit Automotive. The mini-Series within the five Pro Stock/Super Late Model races held at the high banked bullring continues this weekend with the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour’s Cummins 200 on Saturday, August 25th. The event is a part of the 54th Jones Auto Body River Glade International.

Butcher Racing and the No. 53 car with Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour point leader Cole Butcher at the wheel have won two of the first three Pro Stock races at Petty International Raceway in 2018. Butcher took home his first Pro All Stars Series (PASS) win at the Atlantic Fleet Completion Centre 150 on Sunday, June 3rd and followed it up with a Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour win during the Irving Blending & Packaging 150 on Saturday, July 21st. His worst finish of the season at Petty International Raceway is a second place finish in the Lucas Oil 150 season opener on Saturday, May 19th.

With Butcher racing in the 45th Annual Oxford 250 this weekend at the Oxford Plains Speedway (ME), the team has Russell Smith Jr. (Lakeside, NS) substituting in the No. 53. With Bumper to Bumper $5k PPSC points going to the car, Smith Jr. will accumulate points for the leading car in the standings. Smith Jr. is a former A.E. McKay Builders Late Model Sportsman Champion at Petty International Raceway and a two-time River Glade International champion in a Sportsman car. Smith Jr. was on the podium in the Cummins 200 one year ago driving for Slaunwhite Motorsports.

Eight drivers have competed in all three PPSC races so far in 2018. Sixth has been the number for Darren MacKinnon (Charlottetown, PE) as he has placed in that spot in each of the first three races which has him second in the standings. Dylan Gosbee (Cornwall, PE) is third in the standings of those that have run all three races, just three points off MacKinnon. Jonathan Hicken (Brudenell, PE) and reigning Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour champion Shawn Turple (Enfield, NS) complete the top five in the standings. Andrew Rodgers (Smithtown, NB), Chris Duncan (Hampton, NB) and Nicholas Naugle (Dartmouth, NS) round out the drivers who have raced in the first three races.

Not to worry though as one “drop race” will be factored into the final standings after the checkered flag falls in the Mike Stevens Memorial. Race teams will be able to count their best four races towards the final point tally in the PPSC. This allows teams and drivers that have to miss a race for whatever reason to still be eligible for the prizes at the end of the PPSC.

Entering the Cummins 200, a total of 23 teams have raced in two of the three events, led by two-time River Glade International winner Craig Slaunwhite (Terence Bay, NS) and 2018 Lucas Oil 150 winner Dylan Blenkhorn (Truro, NS).

A complete race preview for Saturday’s Cummins 200 for the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour can be found on the official website for the series, MaritimeProStockTour.com.

To recap, the PPSC has been contested during the first three Pro Stock/Super Late Model races at the track in 2018 and continues with the final two over the next month. These include the Lucas Oil 150 for the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour on May 19th, the Pro All Stars Series 150 on June 2nd, the Pro Stock Tour 150 on July 21st, the Cummins 200 Pro Stock Tour event on August 25th and the Mike Stevens Memorial Super Late Model 200 on September 22nd. House points will be kept over the five events and competitors will be able to count their best four events towards the PPSC championship standings.

The team, with points going to the car number, who has the best four finishes over the five races will receive a cool $5,000 cash bonus from Bumper to Bumper. Second place will receive a full ARBodies body (less glass) with installation and labor courtesy of Lonnie Sommerville Racing. The third place finisher in the PPSC will receive an ARBodies Re-Skin kit.

This weekend sees the 54th running of the Jones Auto Body River Glade International. Friday night sees the Jones Auto Body 125 for the A.E. McKay Builders Late Model Sportsman with support from the Atlantic Modified Tour, Westwood Estates Street Stocks and Mister Transmission Mini Stocks.
