Dear Race Car Owner;

Please consider this request to bring your race vehicle to our 14th annual Racing Against Drugs event. This year’s event is taking place from June 8 to 12, 2009, at the Regional Operations Centre, 100 Maple Grove Road, Cambridge, with set up on Sunday, June 7 between 12 noon and 5 p.m.  Your previous attendance and support at our event has greatly contributed to the ongoing success of the program.

 
Racing Against Drugs delivers to approximately 3,000 grade six students of this Region a healthy, drug-free lifestyle message through a variety of educational tools and teaching techniques.  It is based on the belief that racing demands zero tolerance to drug use and that natural highs are attainable through such a sport.  The Waterloo Regional Police Service and RCMP are joined by approximately twenty-five other agencies such as emergency services, social agencies, service clubs, and volunteer groups to bring this message to the students. 

We sincerely hope you are able to participate in this event.

I didn't even know this program existed. Mind you, I haven't checked the board as often as I did in the past either. If there's a need in 2010 and our sponsors want us to go, we'll gladly attend next year.

Just realize that this is an old thread, and if you're interested for next year, they'd likely be happy to have ya.

For a while I drove school bus and it was my pleasure to be able to bus kids into the London-and-area version of this event. I'd always make a point to wander the show and take it all in. They'd have stuff like slot car tracks, the Lucas Oil Race Simulator, and of course lots of race cars on display...very highly interactive. It wasn't just a wander- around-and-look thing for the kids though. They'd divide the kids up into groups and each group would "take the green flag" and go through all the displays in a sequence (kinda like playing mini golf) until the final display where they'd get a little checker flag. Each display was focused on one particular element of the say no to drugs message. It was cool.

Great event for the kids. Definitely worthy of your time.
