Warnes Takes a Pair of Flamboro Features; Beatty Clinches the 2015 OMRS Championship

Weather may have postponed the final event of the 2015 Ontario Modifieds Racing Series – powered by Torque Builders Inc. – schedule to Sunday, October 25th, but it couldn’t delay the inevitable outcome.
With a field of a dozen open-wheeled teams in attendance for the annual Frostoberfest program at Flamboro Speedway – near Hamilton, Ontario – a number of positions within the final point standings were still up for grabs, but the championship trophy was already at the engraving shop, waiting on instructions from series officials to etch Donny Beatty’s name on the plate reserved for the overall titleholder. Even though he had yet to win a main event on the tour, the veteran runner from Beaverton, Ontario – in his first season of OMRS competition – entered the final weekend of action with a small, but manageable lead in the standings.
Finishing ahead of rival Nick Lees was the goal in each of the day’s 25 lap feature events. In the first ‘A’ main, Beatty finished 3rd while Lees was 6th. 7th and 9th place efforts respectively in the second round added an Ontario Modifieds Racing Series title to a resume that also includes Thunder Car honours at Peterborough and Kawartha Speedways. While Beatty’s crew celebrated a season championship, 2014 titlist Robert Warnes claimed the checkered flag in each feature race. Richard Warnes – speaking on behalf of the group of OMRS officials that also includes Bill Pickford and Randy Hollingsworth – says the series owes a vote of thanks to Mike Schmidt of London Recreational for putting together a great show.
“Mike brought some strong promotional skills and sponsorship to the Frostoberfest event,” said Warnes. “Our teams appreciate the opportunities that were provided at the qualifying event Friday, October 2nd and during the feature race program. It was a great way to wrap-up a stout 2015 season for everyone associated with the Ontario Modifieds Racing Series.”

Ontario Modifieds Racing Series Flamboro notes: The #46 team shared by Ryan Babin & Christopher Mulders and the #07 of Alex Lees weren’t able to make the Sunday, October 25th event at Flamboro… Series officials have announced that this year’s awards celebration will be held Saturday, November 14th at the Quality Hotel and Conference Centre in Oshawa.
