racing experiences
« on: July 28, 2011, 07:49:17 PM »
I'm getting sick and tired of hearing/reading/seeing negative things about the track.
Could we post some of the positive things we've seen/experienced at the racetrack, it doesnt have to be pete, it can be any short track?
Maybe some of the owners/promoters could get some ideas and put the ideas to good use!
The only thing that I ask is that we keep this thread on a positive note!
Thanks folks

I was at Sauble last night for "THE DASH FOR CA$H"  and I saw some great side by side Racin with very few cautions but for the odd spin...we are plannin on Goin To Sunset on Sunday where we hope for more of the same and  sun is just goin to be one of those days when you wish you could be at two tracks at once cause I think the 150 OPEN LATE MODEL race at Sauble is going to be a great side by side to watch as well

The Summer Showdown at Delaware this year was probably the biggest super event vibe I have ever been a part of. Some great racing and late race drama sure made this years SS one heck of an event. Kudos to all the Delaware staff, race teams and especially the folks on the hill for making this one to remember.
We raced up at Sunset a few weeks ago and that was also a great day. Lots of side by side racing at that place forsure. Dilley and his staff sure have built one heck of a facility up there.
Can hardly wait for this weekends BTH 150 at Sauble Speedway. This one is sure to be a real barn burner as well. Looks like all the top LM teams will be there. Who grabs the checkers is anyones guess??

The Facts are who wants to watch a Feature with 5 - 8 LLM's, I sure don't.
This is a great track but racing hasn't been good since the days of Art who owned and the place was packed; racing will never be the same at any tracks cause now it's all about $$$$, politics & cheaters & NO TECH.

Back when Kim Wallace owned Peterborough Speedway, we'd tow the late model sportsman over there to race every saturday night, that was back when the track was repaved.  It was good racing over there, didn't replace any body panels on the car until the end of september, 1 motor, but no  body panels.  The field were good with Howard in the 70, Baker Sr in the 23, McHattie in the 71 and Dummit until he moved on.

The Minis put on a whale of a show every week. Those guys race for the win and take no prisoners. A few cars left for other venues, but I think more guys who want to go fast will eventually build DOHC cars and come to Peterboro. If you want to race or watch FAST minis, Pete's the place to be.
The late models will get better. They are expensive and take a lot of committment. Don will be back soon, the 00 Vette is coming more often. Haven't seen Dale Laking around lately. Don't know where he's at.
Too bad Bull and Kearnan left. It was worth 20 bucks every week just to see what those 2 would do next. Lance is trying hard to get the X going again. If the planets aligned, there could  be 10 anyway.

Randy went to Barrie, Dale Laking is at Mosport, as is Darren Kearnan. Nick Oram in the 00 will likely run the rest of the season at Ptbro - when his schedule permits.

Yes I have had good experiences at tracks we raced on "but those days are gone now for Racers"; and for your Info I've been to more tracks in Canada & USA that you could count & I sure wouldn't be too proud to race a Feature with 5 LLM'S and sure wouldn't tell any 1 I won it !

Now at Peterboro they wreck cars when only 5 -6 are racing !
When 24 cars started a Feature there probably wasn't too may wrecks :"just Brain Fade" !

Nascar329...... dude he specifically asked for some positive posts. Has it really gotten that bad that we have nothing positive to say about racing in Ontario. Start your own thread and bitch for those who will listen, but dont hi-jack this cats attempt to bring the positive vibe back to racing in Ontario.

I don't think Lance will be out with the X car this year, he is spending all his time with his son Tristan and his 4fun car at the moment.

hey pipes, like the topic of something positive about racing. have been attending pete since 1969 as a fan and a driver. have seen some great racing there, have got to see some of the best racers in ontario in all sorts of series hone their skills at that track. i like running there, and will continue to run there when i feel like it. when i am not there i am not running else where, just taking some much needed family time. as far as other tracks , have also attended other tracks here in ontario, dirt and pavement and have seen some great racing at these venues also. not sure how to fix the pete problem, it is not a situation unique to just this track. varney, mosport, and ottawa all have the same problem drawing cars and barrie is getting better under new ownership. would love to see at least 15 cars in each division at pete but probably will never see that again. all i can do is try to be part of the solution and support this track and hope that things get better there.

Yes it has gotten bad & Promotors are most to blame; they put the Crate eng. in place to save $$ and that's gone down the tube with drivers taking this eng. and getting it modified "hence no longer everyone on same page"; tracks having TECH & no 1 is checked + some tech don't know what to look for & some tracks say not enough time to check cars.
You say give Promotors ideas to improve racing "what's the point they don't listen" !
Take JP 4 example he could get the LM'S back there (only run KD Fridays) and when Mosport has no LMS on a nite they off they could have another place to run.
My biggest beef is NOT having a Common set of rules that cars can run wherever they want on any given nite like it used to be way back when racing was good and TOP POINTS  went to back for a Feature ............. now drivers say that causes wrecks that's a CROCK OF BS, maybe these drivers saying this can't drive unless they are out front .................. I sure do know that some cannot drive in traffic !
