“VILLAGE PIZZA - OHSWEKEN SHOOTOUT” FIELD TAKING SHAPE FOR SEPTEMBER 18th

The 5th Annual “Village Pizza - Ohsweken Shootout” scheduled as the open race leading up to the running of the 5th Annual Canadian Sprint Car Nationals is shaping up to take the green flag on Friday night, September 18th  In all, fifteen drivers from five affiliate sanctioning bodies will compete in this year’s edition of the 10 lap affair.

During the 2009 season, each of the “Canadian Sprint Car Nationals” affiliate sanctioning bodies scheduled to run a standalone event at the speedway competed for the honour of representing that sanction in the Shootout.  The first three finishers in each of the five qualifying events that are regular competitors of the evening’s host sanctioning bodies gained the right to compete in the “Shootout”.  The winner of the “Shootout” will pick up $500 U.S. for covering the 10 lap distance.  Entry fee for the Nationals must be received prior to taking the green flag for the “Shootout”.

In the event that one or more of the qualifiers are unable to attend, a replacement will be made by selecting the next highest finisher from the qualifying race for that affiliate.

The ASCS Sprints On Dirt trio will consist of Ryan Grubaugh, Brett Mann, and Dustin Daggett based on their top three finishing positions when SOD visited Ohsweken back on June 12th. Alternates will be Tim Norman, Dain Naida, or Gregg Dalman if any of the three qualifiers are unable to show.

The host Corr/Pak Sprints of Ohsweken hosted a qualifier on Thursday, June 18th as part of the World of Outlaw Late Model show. Tom Huppunen, Glenn Styres and Jared Zimbardi clinched the three starting berths from this event with Mikey Kruchka, Kevin Job, and Dave Dykstra as alternates.

The ASCS Patriots ran their event on August 14th where Trevor Lewis showed the way while Blake Breen and Dain Naida claimed the other two starting berths. Bryan Howland, Scott Kreutter, and Chris Muhleisen will fill the alternate roles.

Rain early in the season claimed the Empire Super Sprint qualifier. The Shootout positions will be up for grabs when the make-up show kicks off Nationals weekend on Thursday, September 17th capped off with a 25 lap feature event. The top three regular ESS finishers will gain eligibility to enter the Shootout the next evening.

Rain also washed out the Southern Ontario Sprint qualifier on July 17th. By virtue of their finishing positions in the season long points chase, newly crowned SOS Champion Justin Martin along with Adam West and Warren Mahoney will get the opportunity to represent the SOS in the Shootout with Jamie Collard and Tyler Rand as alternates. An Outlaw Style draw will take as part of the opening ceremonies to determine the starting line-up.
