GINN Racing Changes
« on: July 18, 2007, 11:28:48 AM »
WOW>>>Never saw this coming for this year....

Nemechek-Marlin Out, Almirola In
Emphasizing an eye on the future along with solidifying the foundation of its NASCAR Nextel Cup program, Ginn Racing announced the following transactions.

    * Aric Almirola, the 23-year-old Busch stalwart and a member of the Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) program the past four years, has signed with Ginn Racing. He will become Mark Martin’s co-driver in the 01 U.S. Army Chevrolet for the remainder of the 2007 season and will also share the ride with Martin in 2008. His first race in the 01 will be Aug. 12 at the road course in Watkins Glen, N.Y. As part of his contractual obligations, Almirola will compete in five remaining Busch races for JGR this season.
    * Regan Smith, 23, who was Martin’s co-driver in the 01, will assume full-time driving duties in the team’s No. 14 Chevrolet, beginning with the Nextel Cup race July 29 in Indianapolis. Smith replaces Sterling Marlin.
    * Due to a lack of sponsorship, the No. 13 Ginn Racing team is currently being evaluated. Joe Nemechek, who drove the No. 13, has been released and is free to explore other opportunities.

There is now a Ginn DEI merger rumor going around to add another layer to this story . I did find the "Busch stalwart" label they glossed Aric with amusing since this is a guy that has only been able to finish on the lead lap 7 times in 22 {excluding Milwaukee} starts in cars that other people challenge for the win in .  Aric has been able to wreck at twice that rate in his short career. Almirola went on a pout after being pulled at Milwaukee for Denny Hamlin and this would seem to be why he left JGR for Ginn.

Almirola only got his shot after being put on the Drive for Diversity program also known as the Please don't shake us down anymore Jesse Jackson program which many found strange since Aric was born and raised in Tampa to affluent parents of Cuban descent.  Gibbs spent a small fortune on this kid bringing him up through the short track ranks where he mostly wrecked cars at ACE Speedway.

In Almirolas only Cup start he took a very fast Tony Stewart car he was given and stuffed it into the wall at the beginning of the race . Ginn really landed himself a treasure with this spoiled cry baby punk that I am sure will keep the fab shop busy.

But his Latino descent will keep the sponsors happy, and sadly that appears to be the first priority...
