TWO MARCH MADNESS EVENTS HAVE GOT TO GET YOU THINKING …
IT’S TIME TO START MY MERRITTVILLE ENDURO CAR

For Immediate Release - March 20, 2010.  From Jim Irvine - Merrittville Public Relations - 905-685-7223 Winter Office or jimirvine@cogeco.net

Thorold, Ontario (March 20) – If you were sitting in the grandstands last season and got to thinking to yourself … I think I would like to give racing a try ….then Merrittville Speedway has just the thing for you!

Maybe a little March Madness will help you get up the nerve.

Between games on CBC’s Hockey Night in Canada tonight we believe there is something called the Red Bull Crushed Ice World Championships. What’s billed as a mix of hockey … downhill skiing and boardercross it is set for the historic part of old Quebec City.

If you can’t catch it – Google the event – you won’t believe what you see!

If you do get to see it … it’s got to be a pretty good warm-up for Sunday afternoon’s Food City 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup Race at Bristol.

If either of these events get you excited and more than interested … this latest break in the weather has you plenty of time to get a car together for Monday May 24th’s Enduro Opener.

Once again in 2010 – although with some new twists – Merrittville will host 3 qualifiers that lead up to what is now being called Merrittville Motorized Mayhem that will close the season Sunday September 12th.

Zavitz Financial Strategies and Employee Benefits will host the first event – closing out Victoria Day that will also feature the 100 lap 358 Modified Super DIRTcar Series.

Accelerated by Niagara College – the Ironman Enduro Qualifying Series will be presented by the Grantham Lions in 2010.

And just like the St. Catharines service club’s slogan – Never too young …. Never too old – Enduro Racing is for enthusiasts with no experience … from one of our Saturday Night Lucas Oil Weekly Racing Series Divisions or someone that may have run the event previously. It’s not about where you start … it’s more about finishing.

Now is the time to start building your car!

“It’s pretty basic,” explains (Merrittville GM) Erica Bicknell, “ it’s a street car with safety modifications – everything else is stock as you found it … an Enduro car is not a race car – it’s a car that races.”

Depending on what happens in any of the qualifiers, a competitor could use the same car in more than one event.

“We’re thrilled that the Grantham Lions are quite involved in the sport this season,” added Bicknell, “it’s a great organization … heavily involved in the community … and we share the same anniversary!”

The Grantham Lions Club was formed in 1952 and is heavily involved in minor sports organizations and like other Lions Clubs worldwide – has Lions Eye Care as a major project.

For information on how you can become a member of the club – visit www.granthamlionsclub.com or visit Hoosier Stock competitor and Lion Ron MacAulay and club members at the track this summer.

Events that race fans should make note of are their Fish Frys the first Friday of every month with the next one Good Friday … a Fertilizer Sale April 9, 10 and 11 … as well as their annual Carnival – June 10-13.

For information on Hall Rentals – call 905-935-8434.

“Niagara College continues to be # 1 in student satisfaction,” boasts Bicknell, adding, “and we are thrilled they are continuing to accelerate our Enduros.”

It all starts with some Monday Night Madness when Zavitz Financial Strategies and Employee Benefits presents the first qualifier Monday May 24th – look for rules to be on the web site this week or at the Speedway Office when it opens for the season April 1st.

Niagara College is in an unprecedented run of consecutive number-one rankings in overall student satisfaction among all Ontario colleges.

Individuals considering re-training for a new career are encouraged to take a serious look at the many programs and opportunities available at Niagara College.

For further information on technology, apprenticeship and skills training visit niagaracollege.ca and accelerate your career.

Stay tuned as Merrittville Speedway’s Grantham Lions Club Ironman Enduro Qualifying Series and the all new Merrittville Motorized Mayhem – accelerated by Niagara comes together.
