OMRS Teams Run Another Strong Show at Peterborough Speedway

By its very nature, open-wheeled racing can be one of the most exciting forms of motorsports. The Ontario Modifieds Racing Series, powered by Torque Builders Inc. is delighting fans with this thrilling brand of action and Saturday, June 7th turned in another strong performance on Canada's Toughest 3rd of a Mile Paved Oval.
Making their second appearance at Peterborough Speedway in as many weeks, the Ontario Modifieds Racing Series - powered by Torque Builders Inc. ran a pair of qualifying heat races that saw Brad Stevenson and last week's feature winner Nick Lees take the wins.
Come feature event time, The Ontario Modifieds Racing Series, powered by Torque Builders Inc. was set to battle for 20 laps, with Rick Warnes and Bill Pickford on the front row. Just a pair of laps were showing as complete on the scoreboard when the race's first yellow was displayed for a solo spin in the 3rd turn by Bill Burrows. As teams approached the halfway mark, Brad Stevenson - subbing for Chad Strawn - had moved into the top spot, with Rob Warnes mirroring his every move from as close as his rear nerf bar. After smoking for a couple of laps, the recent string of bad racing luck continued for the #07 of Alex Lees, who showed a belch of flame coming off the 4th turn and rolled to a stop on the infield grass, bringing out a red flag with 15 circuits complete. While the track clean-up crew checked the racing surface for any debris or fluids, the balance of the field settled-in for the 5 lap shootout that would settle the score. Rob Warnes would nudge past Stevenson on the restart and then hold-off all challengers for his first win of the season. Nick Lees - whose fortunes have been just the opposite of his twin sibling's - Stevenson, Rick Warnes and Bill Burrows completed the OMRS fast 5.
The series returns to Peterborough Speedway Saturday, July 12th.
