Brighton Speedway successfully completed its 6th annual commitment to local literacy with the Race to Read Program in eleven local third grade classrooms and on Saturday, May 30th, the 1/3 clay will welcome of the participants to the celebration finale. All of the grade three children in the participating local schools had to track the number of minutes they spent reading at home with their families for a two week period.
Celebrating a little harder than the others with pizza and some one on one time with drivers, is the winning class of Mr Gariepy from Kente Public School, Ameliasburgh, who read an average of 503 minutes each in the two week period. The overall individual winner was also in Mr. Gariepy’s class
Organizer , and driver of the #77 Brighton Automotive Pro Stock, Caley Weese stated, “It is very exciting to see all of these kids get revved up for racing, through spending time with their families. The focus is not on the amount of reading completed, but the amount of time spent together reading and understanding the content. Reading as a family is just like coming to the races with them, affordable family fun, that creates lasting memories.”
Bainer’s Radiator Canadian Modified Driver, Jeff Sallans ( #72) actively visited schools and talked to the kids about reading, “Every kid who reads and every family who spends time together, even if it is just a little bit more of each, should feel like a winner. Checkered flags should hang above all of their doors!!”
The Race to Read Finale is being hosted as part of the LeClair Electric presentation of Vintage Car Racing & Exhibition in support of the Kingston Speedway Reunion, featuring the FAB FOUR+ RONA, Trenton Canadian Modified Triple Crown . Green Flag flies at 7pm. For more information visit
