Sunset Int' Speedway Banquet 2011
« on: November 14, 2010, 08:03:24 AM »
If you did not attend, or, were not able to get a ticket. You missed a great evening of fun, laughter and some serious moments.  The hall was packed, the food was great and the music for dancing was excellent. A big THANK-YOU goes out to those who bought ticket to help the family of the young lady who was burnt. Great to see such support in helping out.  The trophies were great and a big announcement was made as to what is in store for years to come.  A lot of people at the rear of the room could not hear for the loud chatter of those who were a little too friendly .  But ALL in  All it was one of the best banquets I have been at. Looking forward into being at Ontario's #1 track next year.

Cannot beleive the prize monies being offered up for next year. A special event format for the season called the 50,000 shootout. From what Mark Dilley was saying ,this will be the most prize monies ever offered at a Ontario speedway for all race classes in one race season. I did here that it was something like 18,000 to win the sunset late model championship on top of the weekly purses. Dont quote me on this because by this time i was getting into the sauce but i think Mark said 6,000 to win the sunset superstock championship on top of the weekly purse and 4,000 to win the sunset mini stocks on top of the weekly purse.Mark also said that the monies would be paid out way better for drivers throughout the entire standings.More balanced throughout the entire standings. He also said that further news would be announced at the drivers meetings in december. WOW personally i cannot beleive sunset stepping to the forefront of racing like this and trying to make racing better not only for the racers but us race fans too. Great job by the ownership group,Mark,Linda,Steve, the people that work at the track and especially the drivers,ALL of the drivers that raced at sunset speedway this season. Vantastic season. Vantastic banquet too.

I think he said some added big purse shows throughout the year to be run on special nights.I dont really know the specifics but i think it is an extra big money series held at sunset speedway for all classes on certain nights  not to interfere with regular sat.night program or the McColl and Stefco race series. Both Mike and John were at the sunset banquet handing out series awards and both said how happy they were with the way things went for the first season.

If any of this is anywhere near true, a bad moon rising is gonna ripple across the province...

The idea of reducing costs to race will go out the window for sure...

Again...........

More money wont attract more cars, UNLESS it pays BETTER to the BOTTOM HALF of the feild.

Steve Lang, Stan Coe, Mike Weeda, Richard Butler, Bill Galant, Paul Geniole Jr, Rick Santigato, Ethan Cournyea, Myself, etc, etc...........These people either packed it in or didnt run most of the specials, they arent gonna win the points, they know that,  regardless of the money.  PAY THE BOTTOM MORE!  Then they might come out.

Same goes for late models.  I think its great to do what they are saying, but its just put together backwards.  Sunset still rocks.

My question is ....   do the payouts really matter ?????   is it not the willing ness(is that a word ) to comptete AND have fun at  the same  time ?? ..   if your not having fun ..  then u get out of it ...I did ......(  and I stopped racing for myself ...not the cost factor )   if winning is the ONLY thing a team has in mind ..then ..the heck with the cost .......   i'm open to any concept on this .....   other than that ...GO GET'M GUYS  n GALS
