Black Flag
« on: July 17, 2011, 08:47:56 AM »
Couldnt help but notice that throughout the night of racing that the non use and use of the black flag was at the very least unusual. During the superstock heats and feature, certain drivers [ or should i say a certain driver]was bouncing off each other like pinballs. At least 6-7 drivers were lucky to save their equipment from serious damage although the 49 of frank davies was an unlucky one and sustained some serious damage.NO black flag.During the latemodel feature on a restart the 47 of walters was a door ahead of the 11 coming out of 3-4 with the 11 of morrow sliding up and making contact with the 47,thus sustaining a flat tire. 47 walters sent to the back for jumping the start. First time this year ive seen anybody black flagged for this, drivers always given a warning first. Also heard it could have been for something else, anybody know. Danka, sure hope you got this one on video.

I want to point out especially during the late model feature the starter seemed to be throwing black flags based on his personal feelings versus the actual track actions I raise the following questions

-how can you have a starter who's family business sponsor a particular driver in a division this is clearly a conflict of interest and should call for the starter to resign, his assistant starter seems fully qualified to take over.

-he made numerous very poorly based calls throughout the feature:  multiple cars spin they retain their positions but yet certain cars goto the back who were clearly victims of restart situations etc.  In particular Car 29 gets spun he goes to the back yet the car that spun him goes back to his original spot.  In the same situation multiple cars spin on the front straight they all get back to their spots???

-a starter like this is dangerous to the health of a field in a year where car counts are dangerously low and actions like that can force cars to others tracks.

-prior to the feature the starter calls a drivers meeting where he refers to "stupid" actions by drivers yet his behavior does nothing more than force drivers into positions where they are forced to push harder than they wish to make up spots he takes from them with no basis or consistency in his actions.  He preaches "give respect ,get respect" that borderlines on "stupidity" as he so easily throws around those word if he cannot practice what he preaches.  If he is trying to guide the championship points from his little stand, congratulations job well done!!

Don't think the officiating is any better up the road.

Didn't this starter get released from his duties"up the road" for the same poor calls?  The management at sunset is very savy and before it hits the bottom line I am sure they will make a change to this behavior as sunset has plenty of great officials who I am sure can be very object starters or maybe guide this starter to make better choices

It already is affecting the bottom line. I very much doubt that I will be bringing my family back this year. This is twice out of three times that we have been to Sunset and my boys have had their favororite driver  sent to the back for no reason. We've been to Ohsweken a couple of times this year, and are off there next week. I used to go to Sunset every week.

You guys need to relax because the tracks are caught up in the "warm body syndrome". The objective is to get rid of anyone who knows what they're doing and replace them with an inexperienced warm body where skill and ability is secondary to the operation of the race track and safety of the drivers.
