Busy Weekend For Evoy Leads to More Consistent Finishes

At the beginning of the 2010 racing season, the goal for the Evoy Racing team was to be consistent.  Nobody can argue that the Evoy team has arguably been the most consistent team in the Sportsman ranks.  At Mohawk Raceway, since Evoy’s win back on June 18th, Evoy has yet to finish anywhere else other then second place.  You just can’t be any more consistent then that.  Evoy has had some great finished at Brockville as well, and with the exception of being caught up in a couple of wrecks that were unavoidable, Evoy is always in the top ten, and on most nights is a top five car, battling with the leaders.

The weekend started off early this past week for Evoy with a special Thursday night show in conjunction with the first ever appearance of the O’Reilly All Star Late Models.  In his qualifying heat race, Evoy started from the back of the pack, and quickly moved forward.  Before they even completed half a lap, Evoy was up to fourth, and by the end of lap three he was in second.  Evoy then took the lead as the flag displayed the two laps to go signal, and went on to win his qualifying heat.  Evoy started the 25-lap feature from the 11th place.  As usual, Evoy moved up through the field quickly.  Just five laps in Evoy advanced to ninth place, and by halfway he was up to sixth, and battling for a top five spot.  Once in the top five, the handle on the car began to slowly deteriorate, and at the checkered flag, Evoy posted a fourth place run.

“The car was really good in the beginning, but seemed to go away at the end.  We still have some work to do here, but we will get it figured out.  This is a tough place to race, and there are some great competitors here in this class”, commented Evoy after the race.

The following night, the Evoy team made their weekly trip to the Mohawk Raceway in Hogansburg, New York.  As with most weeks, the Evoy Racing,

Ogilvie’s Auto & Fleet Service, Fireball Performance Automatics, Nan’s Kitchen, RONA, Robotic & Process Automation, Subway, Linde, Unity Savings, RipNET, Charleston Lake Auto Service, Canadian Tire, Thousand Islands Concrete, Pennzoil and NGK Spark Plugs Bicknell car was fast, but once again, they settled for another second place finish for the sixth consecutive week.

“We keep saying the same thing, but second place is starting to get a little old.  We have had cars that were capable of beating the 01 car but we have only been able to do it the once.  We will keep working at it, and eventually we will get another win here”, says Evoy.

The Evoy’s returned to Brockville Speedway on Saturday night, looking for another victory.  Evoy started his qualifying heat from neat the back once again, and moved up to second before running out of laps.  He was closing in on the leader of the race at a rapid pace, but needed just a couple more laps.  In the feature, Evoy started 13th, but the car just wouldn’t work for the 17 year old like it did in the heat race.  While Evoy still advanced to the eighth position, it was a frustrating night.

“The car just didn’t have the forward bite that we needed tonight.  I think a lot of guys were having the same problem.  Everyone wanted to run the bottom of the track, and it just made it really hard to pass”.

This coming weekend, Evoy will be back to Mohawk Raceway on Friday night, and then the usual Saturday night visit to the home track, Brockville Ontario Speedway.

Evoy Racing 2010 apparel is still available at the track on race nights.  Stop by the Evoy trailer after the races and pick up your t-shirt or sweatshirt.  You can also contact us at ronevoy@ripnet.com.  T-shirts are $15 and Sweatshirts are $25.

Notes:  Back in June, the Mr. DIRTcar Sportsman tour visited the Mohawk Raceway and rain after the qualifying heats put the status of the remainder of the race up in the air.  DIRTcar officials announced this week that feature will be made up on September 17th, and Dylan Evoy will lead the field to the green flag, just as he would have on the original June 23rd night.
