Dan Archibald Drives Through Field to Score OSCAAR Hot Rod Victory
It was a familiar face to fans at Kawartha Speedway in victory lane, but it was no easy feat as Dan Archibald had to come from the back to score the win on Friday night.
The first heat didn’t start off smoothly, with Art Rodgers going around in turn three and four after contact with Jerry Broom. At the same time, Jeremy McLean ran into a mechanical issue that ended his night early. Douglas Fischer scored the heat victory ahead of Steve Mayhew, Lance Foster, Derek Henderson, Broom, Nick Clarke, and Rodgers.
The second heat didn’t go smoothly, either, featuring a pair of cautions as Dan Archibald spun Norm Mayhew, while Billy Alderson Jr. spun after contact with Tyler Hawn. Archibald picked up the win ahead of Mayhew, Steve Books, Alderson Jr., Daryl Fice, Dan Price, and Hawn.
The third heat started off messy as Steve Mayhew got sideways on the start, catching Lance Foster, with both spinning around and Foster catching a piece of the wall; there’d also be damage for Clarke in the process. Norm Mayhew got the win ahead of Clarke, Books, Foster, Fice, and Rodgers.
Dan Archibald went for the daily double ahead of Alderson Jr., Hawn, Broom, Henderson, Fischer, and Price.
Come feature time, Billy Alderson Jr. started pole ahead of Douglas Fischer, Steve Books, Dan Archibald, Steve Mayhew, Nick Clarke, Tyler Hawn, Jerry Broom, Steve Mayhew, Derek Henderson, Daryl Fice, Dan Price, Adrian Foster filling in for Lance Foster, and Art Rodgers.
Alderson Jr. grabbed the early advantage ahead of Books and Norm Mayhew, but the caution would fly on Lap 2 for Steve Mayhew going around.
Alderson Jr. got a good restart to keep the lead, while there’d be a three-wide battle between Norm Mayhew, Dan Archibald and Books for second. Archibald would get the spot, with Mayhew slipping back to third as Hawn made his way up into fourth. Mayhew’s strong early run would hit a snag, though, as he’d bring out the second caution Lap 3 with a spin. With 22 laps to go, Alderson Jr. led Archibald, Books, Fischer, Broom, Clarke, Foster, Henderson, Price, Fice, Steve Mayhew, Rodgers, Norm Mayhew, and Hawn.
Alderson Jr. got a good restart to keep the lead with Archibald, Books, Fischer, Broom and Foster in toe. Fischer then got alongside Books for third, completing the pass a lap later. Broom continued to run fifth ahead of Foster, Clarke, Price, Norm Mayhew, and Henderson.
The third caution then came out on Lap 19 as a three-wide battle between Price, Clarke, and Mayhew resulted in Price going around in turn three. Price would be done for the event, along with Rodgers who ran into some mechanical problems.
The first attempt at a restart saw contact between the leaders, as Alderson Jr. went around for the spin in turn two, with Hawn catching a piece of it. Both drivers would be sent to the back of the field, along with Archibald.
The second attempt went smoothly with Fischer now leading ahead of Books, as Archibald went three-wide with Broom and Norm Mayhew for third. Archibald would get the spot, with Mayhew slipping into fourth ahead of Broom. Archibald then made his way by Books to move into second, with Mayhew following him through a lap later.
Dan Archibald’s climb back to the front was completed on the last lap, as he’d edge out Douglas Fischer at the line to score the feature victory. Norm Mayhew finished third, followed by Adrian Foster and Steve Books. Billy Alderson Jr. got back to sixth, followed by Tyler Hawn, Derek Henderson, Nick Clarke, and Jerry Broom. Steve Mayhew finished 11th, followed by Daryl Fice, Art Rodgers and Dan Price.
Brad Martin was at the track set to take part in the day’s action, but a wreck in practice derailed his efforts.
