STAHLE TAKES TWO IN A ROW WITH LUCAS OIL CAN-AM MIDGETS
Adrian Stahle won Saturday night's 25 lap feature race in exciting fashion with a last lap pass for the lead and checkered flag as the Lucas Oil Can-Am Midgets held a July 1st Holiday Doubleheader at Sauble Speedway. This was his second win in a row, having won at Peterborough Speedway last Saturday night. Accepting the winners trophy, Stahle thanked Lucas Oil, LARCA Custom Machining, Bell Cartage, Paragon Collision and Can-Am Fabrication. "I want to thank all the fans here tonight, I love racing at Sauble Speedway, said Stahle. I need to thank my Dad for all the hours he puts into this car and all the help from Paul Husby. Two in a row, wow, the competition is tough in the Can-Am Midget Club and it is a fun series to run."
Friday nights action saw Steven Murdock and Stahle win their heat races while Veteran Driver Rob Neely won the 'B' Main. While lining up for the 'A' Main, a driver in the Modified division suffered a medical emergency and the remainder of the program was cancelled. On behalf of this racing Club, a 'Tip of the Checkered Flag' goes to Paramedic Ms. Stephanie and the medical responding crew for saving this man's life. Thank you.
Jeff Blackburn brought the field to green with Murdock alongside. Neely was third followed by Darren McLennan and Mack DeMan. Blackburn's sharp TQ #7 wasted no time opening up a lead over the field. Murdock was strong with Neely behind. McLennan was being challenged by DeMan for the 5th spot. Two laps later DeMan swung past McLennan and took over 4th place. Blackburn now had a sizable lead over Murdock as DeMan was catching Neely. McLennan remained in 5th. With ten laps in a caution came out as Neely spun in turn one. Neely went pitside as DeMan went to the rear as an involved car.
As the field again went to green, Blackburn looked to be shot out of a cannon, taking the lead with Murdock in tow. McLennan was now third as Stahle went to fourth and Ryan Fraser was now in the top five. By halfway Blackburn had almost a straightaway on the field and Murdock was running strong in second. McLennan, Stahle and Fraser were running in 'a pack'. With 10 to go Stahle moved into third with McLennan on his tail. Fraser remained in the mix as well. One lap later McLennan fought back to get the third spot. Blackburn looked as if this was to be his win but his luck ran out on lap 18 as he had problems with his right rear wheel in turn one causing him to spin as the wheel came off. He was towed back into the pits as the field again gathered up for the restart. Another caution waved as Todd Cresswell and Adam Walsh spun in turn three taking them both out of the race.
Murdock inherited the lead as the field went green and it began to get exciting. McLennan, Stahle and Fraser were running three wide, all trying for one spot. Darren Dryden moved into the top five. McLennan held on to second for the next two laps with heavy pressure from Stahle and Fraser. Murdock kept the lead as Stahle took over second with 2 to go but he couldn't shake off McLennan and Fraser.
Murdock tried to hang on to the lead. On the final lap Stahle and McLennan freightrained around Murdock coming out of turn four as Stahle grabbed the checkered flag. McLennan was a close second as Murdock hung on to third. Dryden squeeked past Fraser for fourth as Fraser got a top five for his efforts keeping him in the Championship Points lead.
Heats were won by McLennan and Neely. The Lucas Oil Can-Am Midgets head back to Sunset Speedway, for their second of four races scheduled there in 2016 on Saturday, July 9th.
