Evoy’s Win at Brockville Puts Him in The Middle of Championship Hunt
Craig Revelle – Finish Line Web Design

August 31, 2010

This past weekend, Dylan Evoy had two events on his schedule, the first, at Mohawk Raceway in Hogansburg, New York, his normal Friday night home in 2010, as well as the usual visit to the Brockville Ontario Speedway on Saturday night.  Entering the weekend, Evoy has second place in points virtually locked up at Mohawk Raceway, not surprising after his incredible streak of second place finishes at MIR this season.  Brockville was a different story, as Evoy has stormed back in recent weeks to within 20 points of the lead in the battle for Brockville Sportsman championship, and was looking to cut into that even more with a good Saturday night run.

On Friday night, the Evoy team made their weekly trip to Mohawk Raceway, and as previously mentioned, have had a streak of second place finishes.  Dating back to their win on June 18th, Evoy has had seven straight finishes in second place, and this past Friday he extended that streak to eight.  Evoy gave it everything he had to put that car up front, battling with the 01 for much of the race, even getting alongside of him on a couple occasions, but just couldn’t complete the pass.

“The crate motors are just so equal, it is hard to make the pass.  We had a really good car, but so did the 01 car, we were pretty much equal the entire race, and that just makes it really tough.  We stayed with him though, and we gave it our best effort, and hopefully we can get one here again before the season is over”, says Evoy after the race.

At Brockville Speedway on Saturday night, Evoy had a couple of goals in mind for the evening.  The first was to finish as high as he could, knowing that a win or at least a top three finish would keep him in the hunt for the elusive track championship, the second goal was to finish ahead of those three other competitors that he is racing for that championship.  Evoy began the night with a second place finish in his qualifying heat.  After starting in fifth in the heat, Evoy ripped through the field, once he got to second, he began to close in on the leader, but ran out of laps and settled for that second place finish, and picked up a few important points.  When Evoy started the 25 lap feature, he had all of his championship rivals within reach.  Evoy started the race from 11th, and after a few laps began moving towards the front.  With just a few laps remaining, Evoy took the lead and never looked back, picking up his second win of the season at Brockville, and third overall.  More importantly, Evoy closed the gap considerably in the points battle.

At the beginning of  this season, after a few rough weeks at the Brockville Ontario Speedway, Dylan Evoy’s hopes at a home track championship were all but eliminated, but as the season continued, and the summer heated up, so did Evoy and his Evoy Racing team.  Entering the final weekend of points at Brockville, the 17-year-old Evoy is only three points out of the lead.

“This family has been involved in racing for many years, and we have never been involved in a close championship battle like this.  The last few weeks have been really good here at Brockville, and hopefully we can have one more solid finish, and take home the track championship”, says Ron Evoy, Dylan’s father, and first of the Evoy family to get behind the wheel of a racecar back in 1983.  “We don’t want to get ahead of ourselves though, we still have to prepare for the final night of points at MIR (Mohawk International Raceway), as well, and a lot can happen when we get to Brockville next week.  It will be exciting for sure”.

With the racing over for the weekend, the race team shifted their focus on getting the racecar cleaned up for display at Brockville Beachfest at St. Lawrence Park on Sunday August 29th.  Many families attended this great event.

This coming weekend is Labor Day weekend, and that always signifies the end of the DIRTcar regular track points at all DIRTcar sanctioned tracks.  Evoy will finish out the regular season at Mohawk Raceway this coming Friday night, and then will try to make Evoy Racing history this Saturday night in his Ogilvie’s Auto & Fleet Service, Fireball Performance Automatics, Nan’s Kitchen, RONA, Robotic & Process Automation, Subway, Linde, Unity Savings, RipNET, Charleston Lake Auto Service, Canadian Tire, Thousand Islands Concrete, Pennzoil and NGK Spark Plugs Bicknell car.

Evoy Racing 2010 apparel is still available at the track on race nights.  Stop by the Evoy trailer after the races and pick up your t-shirt or sweatshirt.  You can also contact us at ronevoy@ripnet.com.  T-shirts are $15 and Sweatshirts are $25.
