CRA to be Featured in Huge Columbus Motor Speedway Holiday Weekend of Racing

 

Salem, IN (May 25, 2011) – CRA’s top two divisions will be featured in a huge Memorial Day Weekend of racing action at Columbus Motor Speedway, located in Columbus, Ohio. The JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by GM Performance Parts will be in action on Saturday while the CRA Super Series will take to the racy 1/3 mile as part of the Memorial Day 250 special event on Monday afternoon.

 

The JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by GM Performance Parts will have their second event of their inaugural season on Saturday at Columbus. To date 27 teams have already entered the Coughlin Cars 100 Presented by JEGS.com, more are expected between now and race day. Top series drivers who are entered include Eddie Hoffman, Josh Nelms, Erik Jones, Brent Downey, Chad Finley, Jason Dietsch, Danny Jackson, Jack Smith, Jimmy Carter, John Turnbull Jr., Seth Moody, Cole Powell, Brandon Watson, Blake Brown, Wes Griffin Jr., Justin Matson and rookie competitors Jimmy Novak III, Jake Ott, Ross Zumbach, Tom Woodin and Carl Weber.

 

There will also be some local talent in the field including series Rookie contender Cody Coughlin, the first oval racer in the JEGS family which have always been drag racers. Other local drivers who will be competing in Saturday night’s event include David Carter, Travis Braden and Branden Oakley.

 

Monday’s BPS 125 Presented by Howe Racing for the CRA Super Series at Columbus will be part of the Memorial Day 250, which will be the seventh series event held at the central Ohio track. There is a talent filled group of 29 drivers entered so far for Monday’s event led by former CRA Columbus winners Scott Hantz and Brian Campbell. Local racing legend Gary St. Amant will climb back behind the wheel for Monday’s event as he looks to add his name to the list of CRA winners at his former home track. St. Amant will have plenty of competition including Ross Kenseth, son of NASCAR Champion Matt Kenseth, as he makes his first ever appearance at Columbus.

 

Other top CRA drivers entered include two time series Champion Johnny VanDoorn, current series points leader Jeff Lane, also Terry Fisher Jr., Mason Mingus, Tyler Roahrig, Jason Dietsch, Derrick Griffin, Nick Gullatta, Kenny Tweedy, Jay Niewiek, Damon Ecoff, Matt Hall, Aaron Pierce, Jim Crabtree Jr., Danny Jackson, Colin Nickolai, Jeep Pflum and Joey Miller. Two local drivers, David Carter and Justin Alsip are entered, they are both competing full time with the series for Rookie of the Year honors in 2011. Other local drivers who look to steal the win from the series regulars include veteran Ohio racer Mike Stacy, who will be making his CRA Super Series debut Monday, also Kyle Jones, Dom Mahaffey, Ray Muncy and Travis Braden.

 

On Saturday rig parking will start at 11:30am, pit gates open at 12:30pm. Practice will begin at 3pm with qualifying at 6:15pm. The race program will begin at 7pm and will include the Coughlin Cars 100 Presented by JEGS.com for the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by GM Performance Parts. Also racing on Saturday night will be the Columbus Late Models, Modifeds and Sport Stocks.

 

On Sunday there will be an open practice, pits open at 1pm, practice will run from 2 to 6pm. There will be a party Sunday evening beginning at 7pm with live music from the Wayne Mills Band and the NASCAR Sprint Cup race will be on Big Screens.

 

On Monday, pit gates open at 8am, practice begins at 10:15am with qualifying at 12:15pm. The race program will begin at 2pm with any last chance races that are needed. An open Street Stock event will kick off the Memorial Day 250 with the All City Auto Wrecking 50 Presented by PMN Insurance. Then the BPS 125 Presented by Howe Racing for the CRA Super Series will hit the track. The Architect Glass 25 Presented by myusedmags.com Open Compact event will be the third feature of the day. The Open Modified Howe Racing 50 Presented by M & M Head Service will be the final feature of the day.
