Szoke Wins Superbike Finale

Defending champion Jordan Szoke of Brantford was able to defeat his rivals and the weather to take the checkered flag in the second leg of the Mosport Superbike Doubleheader Weekend.  The 32-year-old Kawasaki rider bounced back after finishing second to 2011 champion Brett McCormick of Saskatoon on Saturday.

Mississauga native Matt McBride finished in second place, 15.587 seconds behind Szoke.  After announcing his retirement from professional racing earlier in the day, Sherbrooke, QC resident and two-time Canadian Superbike champion Francis Martin, ended his career on a high-note, completing the Superbike podium.  McCormick, who took a spill in Corner One after passing Szoke for the lead, was unable to finish.

Alex Welsh of Uxbridge, was the winner of the Pirelli Pro Sport Bike race for the second consecutive day.  Keene, ON rider Jodi Christie finished in second place which earned the 18-year-old enough points to capture the Pro Sport Bike championship.  Frank Trombino of Woodbridge was third.

After capturing the inaugural Harley-Davidson XR1200 Cup title the day before, fan favourite Steve Crevier won a thrilling race over American Michael Barnes and Vancouver’s Darren James.

In the Honda CBR125R Challenge, Stacey Nesbitt made history at Mosport with her Sunday win which earned the 14-year-old from St. Lazare, QC, the class title and the prestigious honour of becoming the first female rider in the world to capture a national championship.
