gimme 500 dollars (u already have to be running QA1's) and a metric TC and I could make it turn decent and even with a shitty motor you will be decent...at barrie. Try shit..go to practise and try shit....I picked up 4 tenths at pracy in the middle of the year. Learned that I should have trusted myself from the beginning. Look how we ran at the end...

at the end of the day you have to be a driver...this year...jim was the best driver.---these cars are so even that the man behind the wheel matters in this class, unlike 4 cyl where u (usually) pass guys by pushing the loud pedal.

.... the cars are getting way out of hand and barrie is trying to save them. which is a double edged sword, yes, they can maybe get some real thunders to return but any invitational we wish to go to, we will get killed. in my opinion, they should look after their track and let the other guys ruin theirs. we already have guys wanting to come to barrie but they built their cars to the other tracks rules and would actually have to take too much out of the cars to conform to our rules. therefore they won't come! is it time for a challenger class again or are we way past that? look at fall colours, they had a full field but where was the 20 car consi? we have to stop before we ruin the best class in ontario. jmo

I'm not sure if they are trying to save them Jim, Barrie always goes thru a "cycle"  with the divisions. I started at Barrie the first year of JYD's and when I stopped racing back then they kept pushing all the classes up. Your car now is exactly what the Challenger class was then. They hope that when you go so far with your car that you make the jump to the next level. The next step for thunder cars will be front load bolts and the year after will be LLM. That's always the way, then they will make a major shake up and put the thunder cars back 10 years like they were before.

When I decided to get back into to this I looked at a few Barrie LM's because it costs the same to get a good thunder car on the track as an average LM. The only thing that stopped me was the cost to "repair" the car.

It would be a great idea to split the thunder cars into 2 classes with the challengers but the question will still remain, will there be enough cars for all divisions and can the tech department follow the rules.

And you are also right about invitationals, Barrie cars would get there asses kicked.

i apologize! i must have read the posts wrong. now that you explained it, i feel exactly the same way! the cars are getting way out of hand and barrie is trying to save them. which is a double edged sword, yes, they can maybe get some real thunders to return but any invitational we wish to go to, we will get killed. in my opinion, they should look after their track and let the other guys ruin theirs. we already have guys wanting to come to barrie but they built their cars to the other tracks rules and would actually have to take too much out of the cars to conform to our rules. therefore they won't come! is it time for a challenger class again or are we way past that? look at fall colours, they had a full field but where was the 20 car consi? we have to stop before we ruin the best class in ontario. jmo

#1 who are you referring to as "the golden boy"
#2 never raced flammy before, went with the wrong gear, green driver and blew the release bearing pulling off the trailer. was running 5th until some meatstick pile drove me with two laps to go!
#3 if you are saying that i'm cheating, feel free to come and crawl under my car at anytime!!! if you have to cheat at barrie to win, then you're nothing but a turd!

You are right on the money!!!
If there were more than 24 cars in each class like it used to be then things would be different. Gone are the days of being honest and playing by the rules. If ALL the cars that didn't meet the rules were forced to then it may take some of the expense out of it and get more guys back racing.

So you play by the rules or cheat with the cheaters...........

The car counts are low because of all the guys that are pissed of they don't have, or are not so stupid as to spend the money to catch the non-legal / golden boy. Do they really expect the rest, who have enough self respect not the cheat and don't want to spend their last cent on every cheater part, to actually continue to waste their time and money showing up? Seems they do, which is how much they don't get it.

OR you could work hard, use your brain, invest a little money and ALOT of time...... And win races.

I dont know (care) about the politics in 4 cyl, i know just by listening to the engines 50% are illegal, but that was why they started throwing lead at them. Then some genius decided to let 200 dollar a piece tires run. Advantage goes to the wallet.

The thunder car RULES have gotten out of hand, not "cheating". You cant take an older car (Unless it is the 12 or 10) and run competitivley in that class nowadays. And their cars are fast because Jim and Gord spend ALL week and EVERY practice working on them, not because they have mega dollar parts and NASA engineering. When was the last time any of the other guys swapped all 4 springs, shocks and sway bars, ride height and front end settings from week to week??
You see guys run 40 laps of practice without resetting the tire pressures, touching a wedge bolt or working on stagger, whos to blame for poor performance??
The last night of racing for the 2nd heat we changed a rear spring, toe out, left upper, wedge and tire pressures on the 12, it gained us 2 tenths, which part of that is mega buck or cheating?

As far as late models go, the 57, 69, and 8 are older cars, and they won the majority or the features this year, at least one has a stock clip!
They may have nice shocks, but shocks dont win races, setup and drivers do. I'll bet those guys work all week on their stuff, and experiment with setups during practice.

If you want to label people cheaters because they are successful in their class, go ahead. I'm sure some of them do, but what you have to worry about is if you're cheating and still getting your doors blown off, what are you doing wrong?

It's pretty obvious that they will let anything race because they are so desperate for a car count.

It's also pretty bad when the race director admits right to your face that he realizes a hand full of cars are not legal but he can't piss them off because they need them for their "show"

I believe someone made a comment in the discussion forum about thunder car bodies and how a hand full of cars don't meet the body rule, but they continue to let them run anyway... Just one example of many I could think of.

Just build the car however you want. Nothing gets checked anyways

Interesting, I showed up 1 night to race and when going through safety a few things were pointed out that did not meet Barrie Speedway rules by the tech staff. And they weren't safety related items.

They must not like you
what are you trying to say?

Im not getting into this Shawn, but if you feel the comment was directed towards you (which it was not, Just Barrie Speedway in general) I'm curious to know why?
