CANADIAN FORCES SALUTED

It seemed fitting ,with the anniversary of flight and the air show in high gear, that the races at Brighton Speedway on July 4th, 2009 started with a salute to the Canadian Forces and included forces personel admitted free to celebrate with the speedway racing family.  During the commentator’s reminder of the sacrifices being made by our fellow Canadians and the singing of the national anthem, all cars, trucks and people were at a stand still to salute those of us, past and present, who have given or been impacted by the hard work of the soldiers and their families.

“The work that the Canadian Forces do both at home and abroad, and the sacrifices they and their families are making should not go unnoticed.  Brighton Speedway management and staff appreciate these sacrifices and truly believe that the least all of us can do is take a few minutes to recognize their commitment to us,” said Track Announcer Tim Whitehead.

Coincidentally enough the Brighton Automotive Pro Stock Feature Winner, and the highest finishing Pro Stock in the Pro Stock Modified Showdown, was the #11 of Corey Earl from Ameliasburg.  Corey’s car is done up like the Golden Hawk a former forces airplane.  Other Feature Winners on the night included, Jeff Sallans, #72, of Glen Miller, in the Bainer’s Radiator Canadian Modified,  Roger Croft, #08 , of Shannonville, in the Bill’s Johns Comp 4 and Warren Mowat in the #46 Picture This Pure Stock.  Warren’s win included a special celebration as it was the Northumberland Tire Pure Stock Triple Crown race and contributed to being named the Campbellford Chrysler Driver of the Week.

The next race event is the July 11th, 2009, Dekeyser Excavating  Presentation of the Holiday Inn SOS Sprint Cars, and includes the Excavator Olympics.  This first time competition will include three contests pitting two excavators against each other to discover the longest car throw, closest car to the pin and freestyle champion .  Each excavator will be competing for a charity which include, the Brighton Speedway Chase for the Cancer Cure and Quinte Access.  Green flag flies at 7pm.  For more information on this and other events please visit www.brightonspeedway.com.
