5th Annual McDougall Insurance and Financial Great Crate Race presented by Excel Tower Service Set For September 12 At Brighton Speedway

By Clayton Johns

BRIGHTON, Ont. (August 12, 2015) – The 5th annual McDougall Insurance and Financial 65-lap Great Crate Race presented by Excel Tower Service for the Go Nuclear! Late Model Series is set for Saturday, August 12 and will pay $6000-to-win. Dibbit’s Excavating, Hotch’s Auto Parts and Humber Nurseries are also proud sponsors of this highly anticipated event.

The race will see the top Crate Pro Late Model drivers convene at Brighton Speedway for the 65-lap showdown. The race is scheduled as the sixth event of the 2015 Go Nuclear! Late Model Series tour.

The 2014 edition of the race attracted 33 cars. Dale Caswell of West Monroe, NY won the event for the second year in a row in 2014, charging from 12th to 1st to earn the $6000 pay day. Lee Gill of Lafargeville, NY, who won the inaugural edition of the event in 2011, has returned to the Go Nuclear! tour this season where he has already claimed one win.

Defending track and series champion Charlie Sandercock is hungry to get his first career Great Crate Race win while improving on his third-place finish from one year ago. Brighton Speedway regulars hope to continue their recent success at the event after taking four of the top-five finishing positions in 2014.

All cars in attendance will have an equal chance of making their way in to the main event with group time trials to determine the starting lineup for the qualifying heat races. Following the heat races and a B-Main, the top 24 drivers will qualify for the 65-lap main event. The top five drivers in both Brighton Speedway and Go Nuclear! Late Model Series points guaranteed starters, if necessary.

Drivers will redraw on the frontstretch in front of the packed grandstands for the top 12 starting positions.

The event features a purse of over $18,000 with $6000 paid to the winner, $2500 to the runner-up and $1500 to the third-place finisher. Non-Qualifier tow money, lap sponsorships and other bonuses will bring the total pay well over $20,000, making the Great Crate Race the richest crate event in the Northeastern United States and Canada.

In addition to the 65-lap Great Crate Race, fans will be treated to the 50-lap Danny Reid Memorial for the Bainer’s OilGARD Canadian Modifieds, paying $2000 to the winner. The Bill’s Johns Comp 4s will also be on the schedule.
